Bumping then Tractor Beam??

By MedicFett, in X-Wing

Here is the scenario:

During movement phase, you move your ship and then a higher pilot skilled enemy ship bumps your ship. During attacking, the higher pilot enemy ship shoots. When you shoot the enemy ship with a tractor beam, it hits, assigning a tractor beam token. Then following the tractor beam rules, you get to barrel roll or boost the ship that was assigned the tractor beam. You barrel roll the enemy ship off the ship it was bumping.

Now the question is, the ship that was bumping the enemy ship that just got assigned the tractor beam. Can that ship attack the enemy ship it was bumped by because of the tractor beam, they are no longer bumping?

Yep.

I did something like this with Oicunn ramming during the movement phase (Dauntless for a Target Lock btw), then during combat Vessery (thanks for the TL, Oicunn) with /D with a tractor would push them off at PS 6 and then Oicunn could shoot them at PS 4 at Range 1 with -1 Agility on the enemy.

Edit: stuttered

Assuming I am following correctly:

- Friendly Ship 1 moves based on Lower PS

- Enemy Ship moves and overlaps Ship 1

- During combat, Friendly Ship 2 uses Tractor Beam to move the Enemy Ship where there is no longer an overlap and also applies a token.

If this is correct - and Ship 1 has not had a turn in combat, then YES, the ships are no longer overlapping and Ship 1 can attack the Enemy ship.

that is correct!! That is what i thought, but my buddy said it did not work like that, then we had a roll off and it went my way lol! thanks

This is basically what Ketsu's pilot ability is made for. If a ship blocks her and her mobile arc is forward, you simply tractor beam them off of you and you shot them.

sad part is her PS is 7, if she was much lower PS it would have made a more significant impact (ie you can Tractor then shoot after their turn to shoot has passed)

Ketsu uses the tractor beam at the start of the combat phase, so her PS is irrelevant.

I would be interested to hear your friends reasoning. X Wing is very much like an old computer program with a lot of if statements. IE if it is your turn to shoot, are you bumping? If yes you cannot shoot the bumped ship, if no you can shoot anyone at range 1-3 in arc. Just because you were bumping, when it is the lower PS turn to shoot, doesn't mean you are still bumping. Stuff like this is trying to show the fluidity of the game. Your scenario could be argued with ordnance, because you were in range before a tractor beam shot, doesn't mean you are in range after one.

Of course it does! Thats what ps and initaive are for, to determine what effects and abilities are in place and happens in what order when a given ship activates during movement and shooting.

AH! SO her higher PS is beneficial then, as she can gank a small PS1 ship before it can fire back.

And if she also hits and has some buddies at lower/same PS as her that ship is sooooooooo screwed.

I am torn between Ketsu crew and Ketsu pilot. They are both awesome. Ketsu Crew can keep a /X7 Defender to 1 agility for a turn or 2 so it can die in a screaming heap, especially as Defenders are fairly predictable with their movements... Go on and Palp one die!!!!!!!!

Played this exact thing this weekend.

Ketsu moved and blocked Vader who bumped Ketsu. At the beginning of the combat phase I shoved him away he then took a range one attack from Ketsu (With Dengar on board) and a range 1 from Fenn Rau... He died.. fast....

Yep, I've seen a combined Ketsu/Rau one shot a Brobot and reduce a Jumpmaster to 1 hull point. It's a little bit disgusting when it all comes together.

Yep, and it works more often than you think, won me my first tournament this weekend

Ketsu at PS 7 is a blocking beast. If you can pull it off.

I run her with VI so she's 9, I just had initiative. She goes first and in a perfect scenario she gets 2 tractor tokens on the enemy AND has hopefully stripped them of tokens... THEN Fenn comes in and does the rest.. If he hasn't managed it there's a PS1 Pirate with Clusters to finish off the job....
