Squad Names: Stop Doing That

By CBMarkham, in X-Wing

I mean, broadly, the squad names are basically just memes (It's a bit of information which is easily passed from person to person). Some names (and builds) will be popular and the idea will be passed on, and loads of people will try and force them because they want to have the next "big thing" idea. And since we're all in the same hobby together and all on the internet where we can look stuff up, lots of us are going to be thinking alike. I think I saw like half a dozen people either directly come up with "Snap-Crackle-Pop" or say they also thought of that name when Snap Shot was spoiled (Referencing an A-Wing swarm with Snap Shot and Crackshot).

If a name is catchy and good, it can be very useful (especially with so many options in the game if you refer to a very specific build with just one name). I would agree that in most contexts, writing squad names like fanfic ship names is not gonna be your quickest and catchiest. But for Dengaroo it works like that.

Codenames for a list you're planning on bringing to a major tournament is fine, but much like corporate or government project names, keep it internal use only - don't brag about it. Is plastic spaceships.

Its another thing to name it the "Chihuahuas" or whatever the frick that Awing swarm was called that had nothing to do with Awings.

How dare you, sir?! Chihuahua Storm is an excellent squad that was created by our fearless Phoenix Squadron Leader, and he and it are treasures. I challenge you to the dueling of banjos!

Also, it's a totally apt name. Those things yap and snap until their totally non-threatening little two dice primary weapons have somehow defeated you, and it's always priceless.

I on occasion play a 3 A-wing list but after hearing that name, I will never fly A-wings again. It has ruined the fun.

So......... Palpfenders is out?
