Why are squad list names such a huge deal in X-Wing? It seems like every pod-cast and "celebrity" player has to have a list named for or after them. We even have the NOVA guys trying to "pre-claim" list names with their RonCon mystery lists. A solid portion of the lists I see on these forums are built around funny names rather than solid squads and I just don;t get it. Why is there the incessant need to claim a certain combo of ships? I guess I'm too much of a scrub noob to be in on the joke.

Never going to get away from ship or squad nicknames. And honestly, it's a handy shorthand. We know what Fat Han, Super Dash, Party Bus, Brobots, Crackswarm, Palp Aces, Dengaroo, U-boats etc all mean right away without any explanation.

Of course, some are more catchy than others.

And some are so convoluted that they're completely meaningless. I'm bringing "Last Winter's Night". Okay that sounds cool, but it also gives you zero indication of what's in the list. So unless you make a habit of memorizing lists and associating them with meaningless titles, the whole exercise becomes way too much effort.

Yeah I find that stupid too, the thing is as well chances are that with the number of players world wide someone else has also thought up that list, maybe even seen the down side and moved on, whilst the are sitting there smug in their "unique" list

I love a good, clever squad name. Occasionally I'll actually think of the name first, then try to come up with a squad to go with it.

We need to bring back the classic squad names like "Bloody Daggers" and "Biggs Walks the Dogs".

The difficulty is that sometimes we're talking about an archetype, rather than a specific list. For instance: "Fat Han" refers to any number of lists that involve the original Pilot!Han with squadmates. The first version of Fat Han involved Gunner, but the most famous had C-3P0 and R2D2.

Similarly: there are several U-Boat load outs.

But yes: it would be very nice if people would- on first mention- use a full name instead of an acronym (So that "PTL" becomes "Push the Limit (PTL)"). And if people are feeling _really_ generous, they could list relevant pilot abilities in the text of their first mention within a post or reply.

I love a good, clever squad name. Occasionally I'll actually think of the name first, then try to come up with a squad to go with it.

I've come up with the idea for a Slave II list :: Dengar and Fett, both in their respective ships. Or even doing SlaveI with Dengar crew. Still working out therest of he lists though.

And to the OP, while the squad namescan be confusing to some people, that dotn know them, it is likely better than the alternative- where people constantly just list every ship and upgrade in a list that is well known to people instead of just using the nickname.

Imagine a thread about the Dengaroo list if everyone instead of saing Dengaroo, actually listed the upgrades each time!

Sometimes a lists strength especially in the case of dengaroo is when no one has really seen it. Too many impostaroos out there lol.
