Squad Names: Stop Doing That

By CBMarkham, in X-Wing

I realize that Dengaroo is a hot list and it's stuck in your brain.

That said, can we not try to name every list after a single word mash-up consisting of the pilot names? We've gotta be more clever than that. Seeing endless squad lists with names like "Gurizuckaroo" is starting to drive me insane.

Thanks. Love you guys. <3

I have to agree, for example the term RonCon Special is thrown around in some areas for a certian list. I have no clue what a RonCon is much less a "special" one.

I'm sure that'll slow down after worlds and the pros no longer see the need to obscure their lists.

(if you're not sure what I mean, check juggler)

Since Dengar and Manaroo are married and people like to call Jumpmaster "U Boats," I like to call Dengaroo "The Love Boats."

Is that because when the list came out, it was "exciting and new"?

its one thing to name it "Dengaroo" where you can probably figure out what it means.

Its another thing to name it the "Chihuahuas" or whatever the frick that Awing swarm was called that had nothing to do with Awings.

Usually my list names are just a play on whats in the list. i.e. my double SF list was just called QDBF since that was the main thing in the list.

Heck my Xwing list is literally just called XXXX70 lol take a wild guess whats in that one.

How dare you, sir?! Chihuahua Storm is an excellent squad that was created by our fearless Phoenix Squadron Leader, and he and it are treasures. I challenge you to the dueling of banjos!

Also, it's a totally apt name. Those things yap and snap until their totally non-threatening little two dice primary weapons have somehow defeated you, and it's always priceless.

What the heck is Dengaroo? Is it similar to Managar?

That's a different thing: RonCon was a codename for a build from someone in Nova squadron's secret worlds build. It was the topic of an article basically saying 'I have a list I won't tell you' in a smug tone.

Man, I'm still getting a grip on Fat Han. The rest of it is beyond me.

Wow, I hope that comment "floats back to you."

Do you mean that people should stop making names for squads in the time honored tradition in X-wing? Or do you mean that people should stop tossing around list names in threads without describing what that list is? If it's the latter, then I'm OK with it.

The latter, for sure. Have your Dengaroos and your Kavilbots or whatever the hell, but if you don't provide a list of at least the pilots, it's just gibberish.

Apparently it comes from Nova Squadron and an annual get-together they do at the home of some guy called Ron, which they jokingly refer to as "Ron Con" (as in, Ron's Convention). The RonCon Special is a list that was invented at the most recent Ron Con.

I prefer to play the Imperial Buzzsaw, come on these names are great!! Gives some life to the game :-)

Neither. I thought my first post explained my position pretty well, but I guess not.

I like X-Wing lists having clever names. I'm tired of seeing lists which are poorly and unimaginatively named by mashing pilot names together, in the style of Dengaroo. For example, "Bobaroo" and "Asajjgar". It's getting kinda lame.

That was all.

Does this mean I can no longer use Booskathgurixizorndru Hired Black Sun Ace Guns for my favorite epic list?

No. It just means that I'm going to beat you with this pipe I found until you give it a better name.

You're welcome to continue enjoying the list as much as a man who's being beatin' with a pipe is capable of enjoying anything.

Some hot hot rebel on resistance action?

We can but I doubt we will.

I like mash-ups. And I've been running the "Scowler" swarm lately. Made that name up myself ;)

I like the names. Thems funny.

Recently, I name all my list "The Perfect Build"

Never going to get away from ship or squad nicknames. And honestly, it's a handy shorthand. We know what Fat Han, Super Dash, Party Bus, Brobots, Crackswarm, Palp Aces, Dengaroo, U-boats etc all mean right away without any explanation.

Of course, some are more catchy than others.
