Anyone using Dash and Norra?

By BCooper85, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I used Norra for the first time yesterday with VT, R2-D2, Tail Gunner, PTL and the title and I was pleasantly surprised by how good she was. I spent 90% of the game firing out the rear arc which was sweet.

My main man is Dash so the two of them together seems like a great idea but I'm wondering if anyone else has used them together and that their thoughts are?

Are you using Super Dash (with Kanan - is that Rainbow Dash?) or a different build?

How are you building Norra?

I tried building it; there were a lot of points left over. I found myself in a position of deciding between taking upgrades off Norra to fit in another ship, or putting missiles on Dash and probably never using them.

What was your build with just the two ships?

Mine is :

Dash with title, HLC, EU, Kanan and PTL

Norra with title, PTL, Tail Gunner, R2-D2, Vectored Thrusters

Think I'm right in saying that's 100 points.

I think that's a cool combo. Standard Dash (with Kanan crew) and Norra (PTL, VT, R2-D2, Tail Gunner and title) total 98 points, so you could add a Seismic Torpedo on Norra. I know I will try it for sure.

I also saw this variant in the forums here that I would like to try:

Dash (PTL, HLC, Kanan, title, Engine)

Norra (PTL, BB-8, Kyle, title, Engine)

99 points

So no regen on Norra but it could be solid and surprising for the opponent.

Only flew Norra once so far:

Norra (PTL, R2-D2, Tail Gunner, title, Vectored Thrusters)

Chewbacca (Predator, Luke, C-3PO, title [original], Shield)

100 points

I lost Chewie but Norra finished the game with 1 hit on her hulls, but back to full shields. The opposition was destroyed completely (Ventress, Kad Solus and Graz). R2-D2 is really helpful with the ARC's 6 green maneuvers.

98 points... standard Dash is 58 points and that Norra build is 40 points.

Yep, forgot I put Seismic Torps on Norra :)

Dash Rendar (55) - YT-2400

Push The Limit (3), "Mangler" Cannon (4), Kanan Jarrus (3), Outrider (5), Engine Upgrade (4)

Norra Wexley (39) - ARC-170

Push The Limit (3), Kyle Katarn (3), R2-D2 (4), Alliance Overhaul (0)

I like Mangler better than HLC.

I put a mod and Seismic Torp on Norra, but I feel like all that really does is give my opponent 4-6 more points in potential MOV. (Norra will probably die first just because Super Dash is better at not getting shot.)

I get your thinking but for me I'd rather have as many options as possible, if that means I'm possibly giving more MOV away then so be it!

while I always advocate tailgunner on Norra so her aux arc isn't a complete waste of time...that's when you have Biggs to be your secret service

a 1-agi ship dundering around at speed 1-2 is kind of a sitting duck for just about any enemy squad, which is why we gotta start playing fast and loose with convention

namely, this guy

with PTL, title, Nien, r2-d2 and EU, you get Norra up to 41 points which slots in perfectly with super dash's 58 (+ bid but w.e)

more importantly, you have a ship that can take green 4-fowards and get the hell out of dodge when needed, rather than an anchor trying to follow a speed boat

You make a very good point, doing a 4 straight and getting a shield back is a nice touch.

I found tail gunner came in very handy yesterday as Norra was being chased and that reduction in agility really helped me out.

Hmmm.....

Seismic Torps in a Dash-centric list are a bad idea. Why remove even a portion of his field advantage?

If anything, they're extremely soft counters TO Dash lists.

Hmmm.....

oh trust me, I swear by tailgunner

but I also don't run Norra + Dash, so I'm no really suffering the normal consequences of an exposed ARC

14310500_10157391782620142_4913159389778

but without Biggs you are risking making Norra a very easy target, in which case Nien Nub is probably a very good upgrade to consider

Yep, so true... don't know what I was thinking there.

Good point, I was just thinking it might make people think twice.

I saw Dash-Norra at a tournament last Saturday. I didn't play him but I know he made the cut to top 8.

The list was 58 Dash but I don't know if it was Kyle or Kanan crew. Norra was PtL, Tailgunner, title, Vectored Thrusters, R2-D2.

I'd agree. Dash plays "keep away" so well that whatever else is in the squad tends to get jumped on and dog-piled.

Corran Horn works okay, because he's got the burst damage to do enough good before he goes down, or the boost to run the hell away (and regenerate) if he doesn't.

Norra facing an intact 100 point squad is going to get shot to crud. Yes, she can use her ability defensively, but that's essentially just making her a Y-wing with a single evade token. That is not a target which lasts a long time in the face of concentrated fire, and certainly not long enough to get much mileage out of R2-D2 (if you make it to the second round of shooting you're doing well).

Nien Numb, by comparison, lets you keep up with Dash (ish) and you can either take R2-D2's regeneration option, or BB-8 for extra manouvrabiltiy and action economy.

Between Nien and BB-8 you can actually turn (a bit) because you finish green moves unstressed. As a result you might actually get to use the forward arc every so often (Ficklegreendice faints in horror at the very suggestion). Sadly, without an external source of target locks you're not going to get to use her ability on a torp (which bloody well hurts - a 5-dice, guidance chip modified proton torpedo does nasty things to a protectorate fighter pilot who found out that range 1 is slightly shorter than he thought it was).

I like Norra Dash...but use it with Mangler, and Norra with Ezra Bridger and R2-D2...it brings the pain to the table, also you can consider Vectored Thrusters or Shield Upgrade in the modification slot.

I already won 10 matches with this list, and it's a pain, because you're not tied to the dammed R1 donut, and your ships have a good offensive and defensive capabilities by themselves.
