Scum Hunters

By ArbitraryNerd, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Been running this pretty successfully at our local League Nights, figured I'd share and see what people think:

98 points

Pilots ------

“Omega Leader” (26) TIE/fo Fighter (21), Comm Relay (3), Juke (2)

Colonel Vessery (35) TIE Defender (35), Juke (2), TIE/x7 (-2)

Colonel Jendon (37) Lambda-Class Shuttle (26), Emperor Palpatine (8), ST-321 (3) Collision Detector (0)

Note: You can splash the Twin Ion Engine Mark II on Vessery (and/or OL), but I tend to keep it off because our Dengaroo players work for their initiative bids, and it's important for this list.

OL and Vess are great. Juke is awesome. I don't really need to elaborate there.

You're bringing this stupidly expensive shuttle for three reasons:

1. OL gets to take his evade AND get a Target Lock on ANY enemy on round one. Great against equal or higher PS enemies, and still valuable against lower PS enemies (your first round of combat sees OL with a Focus, TL, and an Evade).

2. Vessery ALWAYS has someone feeding him target locks, and they have no intention of spending them...

3. Dengaroo Countermeasures counter -- if your opponent initiative, you can bring Jendon into the fight, alongside OL. When Dengar pops Countermeasures and strips OL's Target Lock, Jendon can hand it back. Bonus, enemy will often save Dengar's return fire for the shuttle, and you can choose to NOT take the shot, if it won't be as valuable for you.

While I built this knowing several of our local guys run Dengaroo (including MajorJuggler), I've only run up against the list twice. I have, however, still been pulling wins regularly -- the high PS Shuttle both throws your opponent off AND throws a heavy shot earlier in the round, if you're mixing it up in combat. And OL getting his TL's early awesome-ness cannot be understated.

Most recently, I almost had perfect MoV during the last League Night I attended -- I only lost half points on the shuttle once. I'm enjoying the list immensely, even if I'm a bit worried how it's going to fair against Wave IX.

How early do you get the shuttle in the fight? Do you still keep him out for most the fight or do you use his high PS to leverage more red dice early?

It 100% depends on the matchup. Against something like a Dengaroo, it NEEDS to be in the fight. Similarly, I think it will do the same against most Shadowcaster lists.

Against things like swarms, or other aces, or lists Vess and OL can mostly handle, it runs away all coward-like.

I will add that I always bring the shuttle in, regardless of match up, if things look dire for one or both of my aces. Either it slaps someone around unexpectedly (like that time I obliterated a B-Wing that was giving Vess a surprisingly hard time), or it becomes bait to take some heat off of your actual game-ending ships.
