Wonder if you could put these guys to use in some Descent stuff (like soldiers instead of Villager tokens. ) https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2016/8/5/runewars-the-miniatures-game/
New Runewars Miniatures Game
One thing is clear: these Miniatures look cool! If the scale matches, I'd be tempted to write a campaign where an epic war rages between humans and undead. The heroes would have to support the humans while the OL sends his minions and lieutanants to support the undead. One could even think of a campaign where some missions are battles using the runewar stuff. The stuff from Bilehall and Chains would really help out as well.
Hmm. Maybe I take a look at that at some point. Would be awesome.
Pre painted?!?!
Pre painted?!?!
Are you talking about the Runewars Miniatures Game? These figures come unpainted.

Yeah, the ones on the link above. That's what I thought, but since the link (and the video inside) shows them painted, I'm a bit confused.
At 39 seconds you see the minis near the box and can get a pretty good sense of scale.
@leewroy: I dare say they had a professional painter do the job for advertising reasons. I mean if that level of painting would come in the box you'd expect a much higher price. These figures are gorgeous.
@ Zaltyre: Good catch. Now the box seems to be a standard big box. So the figures seem to be a bit larger than descent figures. Maybe 1.3 to 1.5 times the size?
Or maybe they match the scale of the newer H&M packs... Runewars minis could hypothetically explain a change in product line specs.

I think so too
Have they given an MSRP on this yet?

I am secretly hoping that Descent heroes can be used as lieutenants in the Miniature game...

If that's the case, then you shouldn't have said anything. Your secret is now out
I actually hope they create unique content for this. I'm okay with the occasional crossover character, but I really like variety, and the Terrinoth world has so much character to it that I'm all for more races and named characters.
Yeah, the crossovers between Descent and this new game have been discussed in the Runewars Forums: Descent Conversion .
I think it will be easier to convert Runewars minis into Descent Campaigns or gameplay, that Descent's minis into the Runewars gameplay. Because of the hole in the base and other things.
Another thing is that it seems Lord Hawthorne is also in the game , but...with another pose.
And about the size...there's a post where Leoric of the Book is compare to the Rune Golem and a Daqan Soldier: Same Scale as Recent Descent 2e? ...also Ardus Ix'Erebus (post 6).
Leoric seems to be a bit smaller next to that soldier. Perhaps this can confirm what Zaltyre pointed out. In order for a figure to share a model, the Descent figure had to grew to avoid creating a new model, something that could happend with the Runebound figures. Besides, many of the undead army seem to have similar poses and perhaps, models, even Ardus Ix'Erebus.
Aside from that, I think this is a good oportunity for FFG to release a lore book of the Terrinorth/Runebound World. With some stories and art like the ones that came in the Heirs of Blood book...I know I will be paying for that.
These kind of games are 50% game, 50% painting. A friend of mine has some Warhammer sets and he bought them more for the joy of painting than to actually play them. I get the feeling that FFG is trying to target that same public. Maybe they even come with a painting guide?.Edit: the bottom of the article confirms that they will release painting tutorials.
Yeah that's so true. I started playing Warhammer, because I found painting minis to be great fun, after painting a lot of Orcs and spending pretty much money on all the minis, I played my first game... and didn't enjoy it at all.
This was more than 10 years ago. When I saw Descent I thought I finally found a type of game where I don't just enjoy painting the minis, but also using them in a game, which turned out to be true. I was even more pleased by the much better looking miniatures (because Descent miniatures have natural proportions unlike the awful GW miniatures), the extremely streamlined gameplay and the fact that you can play Descent with more than one other person.
It's imo sad to see that FFG is seemingly going the ugly GW aesthetic rute with their Runewars miniature game (unnatural and comical proportions of the miniatures), so naturally I'm sadly completely uninterested in this game and I think adding these minis to Descent won't enhance its aesthetics, quite the contrary as their comical proportions will be even more evident next to minis with normal proportions. I really hope this doesn't creep in into Descent, because the last batch of minis was troubling for me. If the shaman type of mini from chains that rust features this crappy aesthetics, I'm really thinking about skipping this campaign. So far it's the most expensive campaign and I really don't feel like paying premium price for subpar aesthetics.
