Has anyone had any real success or strategies emerge from forward your ships and then placing your squadrons within the distance 1-2, but outside of the standard deployment zone?
Placing Greeblehauls Outside the Deployment Zone
Does anyone not do this?
Does anyone not do this?
New players, mostly. When I'm teaching newbies it's one of the first things I explain to them: "the deployment zone constrains where your ships go, the only restraint on squadrons is within 1-2 of a friendly ship, so try to place them ahead and to the side of your ship."
From time to time if I'm being extra cagey with my TIE Fighters, they'll start in the deployment zone on the flanks of my ships, but that's rare.
I used to do this, but I thought it was eratta'd out as illegal. Can you actually still do this?

It was illegal for all of 2 hours, back when the tournament document was a copy-paste of the X-Wing Document, and not actually the Armada Document itself.
Once it was the Armada Document again, all was right with the world, and it was legal.

You are now OFFICIALLY a rules GUURRUUUUUUUUU!!!!!
Wow, if you couldn't do this, B-Wings would be unplayable almost, even with the Yavaris combo with fries.
Oh god I hope the same thing happens again with the FAQ. Last time everyone flipped out and it was glorious.
This time people are already upset it hasn't been released.
The combination of the two...
Can't wait.
They still have to remain inside the setup area, so no putting squads waaay to the left or right.
I almost always deploy them as far forward as possible. The only exception being that I keep ship movement lanes clear.
Of course, I just had a game where an opponent took Fleet Ambush and deployed his ISD2 at range 5 from my edge. Directly in front of my MC80 Assault. He then was able to deploy Interceptors and Bombers basically within my own deployment zone.
Turns out an MC80 Assault can take a lot of abuse from a single ISD if it just spams engineering. Also, MC80 assaults with engine techs are my new favorite flotilla hunting ship. Double ramming flotillas is awesome.
Well if you are in serious disadvantage you may want to hang back as much as possible and send out your fighter screen in the last possible moment but that really depends on the actual situation.
I like seeing Fleet Ambush in my opponent's choices when I'm first player. I get to set up with my bombers in his face, and can usually start bombing on turn 1. Super-effective!

Maturin uses "Ultra-Forward greeblehauling." It's super effective!
In all honesty, I normally run 2 ship builds with near max squads. So Fleet Ambush would be a very circumstantial choice for me as first player.
With one of my 3 ship, max squad builds, I would jump all over it.

I think just about everyone likes seeing Fleet Ambush in their opponent's objectives when they're going first. I've almost never seen that objective used well by the second player but I frequently see it used well by the first. It's conceivable it might be useful with the right Interdictor set-up (G7s, maybe), but it's a really bad objective
.
Interestingly (and perhaps deserving of its own thread) both opponents who have had it recently were using Interdictors. I wonder if someone's found a good setup? But I'll take this speculation elsewhere...
I wholeheartedly endorse this use of greeblehaul(s).
