Do you need 2 x Imperial & Rebel Squadron Packs?

By Jamborinio, in Star Wars: Armada

I have pretty much one of every ship - does it make sense to have 2 of each of the squadron packs?

Are many lists built around more than 2 of a specific fighter type that's not X-wing or Tie-Fighter?

Cheers

2 and More, in a lot of cases.

For casual play no, for actual play yes and probably 3 of each.

2 of each guaranteed. You can make a solid argument for 3 of each in some circumstances, and in some niche examples even 4. Once you get past 2, however, I'd recommend looking into buying the squadrons you actually want separately (on eBay, from a friend) because at that point it becomes less cost-effective to buy another pack just for more Interceptors/Bombers or Y Wings/A Wings.

How else would you run 4 B-Wings?

I cant really see a need for a third pack. X-Wings are the one type of fighter I may use more than 4 of and the starter set covers those.

For Imperials I would quite like occasionally to run a 5&6th Tie Bomber in a Rhymer ball but at the moment just use a single Firespray alongside and this also helps with activations.

When the new Corellian squadron rules get revealed we may see a need for an extra pack but those are all unique or unique-character squadrons.

Yes.

But I agree with Snipa, after that start trading or buying singles. Imps in particular want multiple TIE bombers, because they're cheap, good, and you only get 2 to a pack.

Bought 4x Reb sqd packs, to make a wolfpack of A-wings ;)

... I need to get to 8 B-Wings.... >.>

Thought this might be answer! Thanks for the replies.

Man does this game cost a lot, though I do love it!

I bought 3 rebel packs, then suckered somebody into trading me 2 B-wings for 2 Y-wings. So I have 8 B-wings. The most I've ever run was 7, and even that was just to justify the trade to myself...

I should just accept "spare" squadrons as "painting credit". Get them that way.

The cost can add up, but do keep in mind that in general purchasing a lot of duplicates tends to mostly just unlock jank fleet options* and therefore the less priority you should give to those purchases versus others. You can start with one of each squadron pack, prioritize getting the second packs soon, and then come around to more than that if necessary.

*It should be noted that jank fleets can be fun, but I don't tend to run jank fleets too frequently. There are definitely exceptions to this rule, however, as 8 YT-2400 Rebel fleets can do well against people who aren't prepared for that. 8 A-Wings in wave one was a solid investment. Etc. Etc.

Right now I would say 2 of each. Eventually, 3.

Corellian Conflict will have 2 more uniques for each of those squadrons. Having enough for 3 uniques and 3 generics sets you up pretty solid.

Depends on how many squadrons you want

I've been doing fine with one of each and 3 rogue packs, and I regret buying the third rogue pack. Of course that restricts you to not so spammy squad builds, which can absolutely work and be competitive, and you have to borrow from friends if you really have to field more than 2 of a single model.

Right now I'm pondering getting another of each basic squad pack, given that on one hand we'll get new cards with Corellian conflict for those models and on the other hand we'll get new squadrons at the same time. Until you get more than 134 points to spend on them, I'm still unconvinced it's worth it.

I'm torn. If Wave 5 comes sooner rather than later, I'll invest of two of those packs each. That seems like a sufficient fighter count. If not, I foresee a 3rd of each pack if not also for the pleasure of hitting them with sharpies, nuln oil, and matte clearcoat.

Ultimately 3 is not necessary, but it's useful for some builds.

I cant really see a need for a third pack.

How else would you run 6 B-Wings?

I own 2, but I think I might buy a third for when the Campaign comes out.

2 Packs if you don't want to fiddle around with flipping dials from Regular to Elite.

That being said, you will get a lot more mileage out of two packs of Rebel Squadron (A/BWings) than you will outta Imperial (Base box gave you your base of TIEs). The Rogues and Villains packs is where a lot of your points will be drawn from...from what I have seen being played.

Yes, but only because my cat ate a stand of y wings, b wings, and x wings. It also destroyed a nebulon, but I was never going to run all three anyway. Stupid mandatory XI-7s...

I would say 3 packs as you can always fit in six tie bombers, b wings or a wings in a list.

Some of *us* might have gone mad with the 25% discount from Warboar during the London Masters and bought enough rebel packs to increase *their* B/Y wings to 8 squadron and *their* Rogues to 6.

Buyer's guilt is keeping *them* from opening them until *they* 'need' them.

Not *me* you understand. That would be silly.

>_>

Two is barely enough. We sometimes are forced to use unused squadrons to stand in for ones we doN't have (i.e. TIE/Fs as bombers)

What is everyone thinking about the new squadron packs coming out? It's hard to tell exactly without knowing all the squadron point costs, but it seems like the Zs are the only squad that would strongly call for more than 1 pack.

You'll want at least 2 of each because of Corillian Conflict coming out. Just 1 of each doesn't give enough figures/bases for both the regular stuff from the squadron packs and the upcoming Corillian Conflict pilots and Elite Squadrons (outside of X-Wings and TIE Fighters because you get plenty of those in the Core set).

Plus 2 of each will give you plenty of options for squadron building. Any more packs is personal preference.
