Force and Destiny

What do I really get from it. Is it the book to show How to be a Jedi and what does it provide in the ways of the force.

Most of the Specializations are Jedi centric (without pushing you into playing a Jedi if you don't want to) but not all and they cover a wide gamut as is expected from a core book. The "classic" three Jedi careers are there: Consular, Guardian and Sentinel.

There's specializations focused on particular lightsaber combat forms, some focused on using the force and some on diplomacy, knowledge, skulduggery, piloting, etc.

There are extensive rules for lightsabers (multiple hilt types like standard, shoto, double/pike and multiple crystals and other attachments).

There is a chapter on the Jedi and Sith (that also includes some information on other traditions).

There are a lot of Force Powers - more than previously offered in the other 2 core books - that cover a wide range of abilities both from canon and the EU.

Thanks Jedi ronin this was very helpful

It should be pointed out (and emphasized) that no career or specialization in Force and Destiny is inherently "Jedi." In fact, it brings out that most PCs won't be Jedi, just Force-sensitives that follow in their footsteps as best as they can. It's just as easy to build a character that isn't aware of their sensitivity. (Almost) Any Force sensitive group or culture from the EU can be built using the careers within.

It's more of a disservice to say it's just the "Jedi book," not to mention it limits creativity.

It is sensitive to the galactic situation in the setting in which it is written; after the Death Star was destroyed, Jedi were essentially a distant memory. So yeah, most games wanting to stay faithful to the canon narrative aren't gonna have a group of Jedi Knights roaming the galaxy! But PCs using this book can start with lightsabers (or build them, modify them, find crystals for them, what-have-you) and can use the Force to accomplish awesome feats (including deflecting blaster bolts, moving starfighters with their minds, leaping tall buildings in a single bound, heal stuff, Force-lightning stuff, etc). So to the average NPC in the galaxy, such a PC might appear, for all intents and purposes, as a Jedi.

That said, the main difference between a Jedi and a Force-sensitive dude that just picked up a lightsaber is experience . So it is definitely possible to make a full-fledged Jedi with the rules in the FaD core rulebook. You just need a good amount of XP :)
