New player, deployment card question

By taylorcowbell, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Hi Guys, I just got Imperial Assault today, and im going through the stuff, and had a quick question about deployment cards in skirmish game.

The rulebook says I can use up to 4 of each regular deployment card. Is the deployment card a hard and fast requirement for imperial assault like tiles and cards are for X Wing? Because it only gives me say 1 regular card for the Nexu. If I want 2 Nexu in an army for skirmish, would I have to buy an entire second core set? If I want 4 regular trandoshan hunters do I need to buy 4 cores even though Id have enough minis with just 2?

Thanks

Taylor

Casually, no, for tournament FFG sanctioned stuff, yes, you'll want the official cards. Some stuff, you can get off eBay if your just looking for an extra Nexu, if you're going to get several of them, it may be worth buying another set. There is also a FAQ which changed the Royal Guard, Rebel Saboteurs and regImperial Officer.

There are also alternative art deployment cards that FFG printed out so they are official, which you can pick up pretty cheap for the Saboteurs, elite Stormtroopers (save you from buying a pack) Royal guards which are pretty cheap

That is correct. You can use up to 4 grey, 2 red, 1 unique in your skirmish army but game only gives you 1grey+1red

HOWEVER, after the Royal Guards/Officer/eSab nerf I don't think there's any "good" lists that requires 4 cores. I just print out proxy cards, hence the reason I vow to never play tournaments

I've got two of most things however if I'm sorry on anything we just borrow each others stuff for tournaments.

There are 4 of us that went to nationals for example and two of the guys borrowed an elite probe off a friend so we all had the right cards.

During casual play we just use regulars for elites etc. If need be, then for a tournament we'll pool resources if needed.

I mean this game is great, but I'm not buying 4 core sets to get my 4 regular trandos for a skirmish list...
