Random Idea's that aren't worth it.

By Ravncat, in X-Wing

There are so many combinations that are fun - or overly complicated and can be quite effective, but they just miss the competitive mark by a meta or two. Some of these tricks are supercool - but not always crazy useful.

Thane Kyrell w Squad Leader -> all kinds of shenanigans possible. (especially through increasingly complex upgrade card combinations.

Sabine Wren (Pursuit craft) -> Flight instructor - effectively make it an AGI 3 ship.

BB8 - Experimental InterFace - Expose Corran Horn

Garven Dreis w R5-P9 and Jake Farrel

Quickdraw + Baffle + Opportunist

Kaato Leeachos + Juke

Kad Solus + Stay on Target

Palob + Juke + Engine + IG-88 D + TLT & IG88C + ig2000

What about you? What unusual combinations do you know of?

Squad leader only works once. It's an action.

Keyan Farlander w B-Wing/E-2, Finn, Rage

Give me time, I know I can come up with lots more random ideas that aren't worth it! :D

Keyan Farlander w B-Wing/E-2, Finn, Rage

May not be worth it, but I'm totally going to fly this at least once.

Squad leader only works once. It's an action.

On his own, thane only works once. With two actions, he performed 1 in action phase so can only do one more unless you give him action cards.

It only has to work once, via decoy Poe with r7-t1 and black one. You can give Poe a boost and target lock while removing a lock if they don't shoot at you. Biggs can force thane. Squad leader can trigger a TL or focus on a procketted A-wing. Etc.

Biggs Darklighter, with anything. Rebel good stuff might be able to stand on its own if this 6 HP shield had not existed.

Biggs Darklighter, with anything. Rebel good stuff might be able to stand on its own if this 6 HP shield had not existed.

Biggs is pretty standard though - and worth it most of the time - it's almost time to see if its worth revisiting various superbiggs pumps... Given than you can stack quite a few bonus' on him at this point - between Stealth, R2-F2, Jan Ors Crew, Tactical Jammer, Jyn Erso, 6 AGI + 2 focus and an evade token....

Porkins, R5-D8, PTL and Vectored Thrusters.

K-turn, then barrel roll to get a R1 shot and focus. Hopefully you got a TL somewhere along the way. Its great fun.

I flew stay on target Kad last night. Wasn't terrible. On your off turns you Arc dodge, or snag a target lock. Then red maneuver to whatever works best. With the title and thrusters, it's an even 30 points.

Vessery with Squad Leader.

"Hey I know, I'll use Vessery to give a target lock to the lower PS ships so I essentially get three target locks out of it!"

*Watch as Vessery dies before ever getting to shoot because he's tokenless."

Biggs Darklighter, with anything. Rebel good stuff might be able to stand on its own if this 6 HP shield had not existed.

I've been flying this 4 ship list with Biggs on Vassal a bit. It is pretty awesome when you get 3-4 focus tokens on Biggs in a round. I TL Sabine with Tarn so she has some mods even when she uses Jyn on Biggs. Might ditch Sabine in favor of Zeb once his point cost is revealed. R5-X3 is one of my favorite droids and while it has some anti-synergy with IA, I just treat it as "cancel a rock or take one less damage", and since there are no other 1 point droids I'm itching to use, I just went with it.

Keyan Farlander w B-Wing/E-2, Finn, Rage

How are you rerolling finn's blank dice? Rage is attacks only. Edit: i guess its just offensive, cheaper than a hlc.

1) Yep, just helping on offense. Re-rolling three dice means it's far more likely that Finn's extra die will help out, too.

2) If Keyan's getting attacked, that extra result probably isn't making that big of a difference anyway

3) Please note the title of the thread :D

My own Favorite is Nera Dantels w/Bwing E2/Sabine crew, Deadeye, Extra Munitions, pick your favorite torp and bomb, and Advanced Sensors - it was something like 44 points and tons of fun, but a very high priority for my opponent...

Biggs Darklighter, with anything. Rebel good stuff might be able to stand on its own if this 6 HP shield had not existed.

Because we've never seen competitive rebel lists without biggs before the torp scout

Cart before the horse etc

still only can use it once per round. Can't do the same action multiple times.

I don't see that as a limitation though, most lists have 3-4 fighters, and aside from the merge where likely as many ships as possible will fire on a single ship - you're looking at not a whole lot of triggers for Thane. I suppose you could build a ridiculous action variant , as many "action" based cards onto Thane as you could, running with biggs in order to force Thane to get a large number of actions. Most high action combinations end up with diminishing returns - so keeping Thane minimal removes targetting pressure.

Thane, Rudor, Phennir all suffer from action starvation - with each trigger, the number of things you can do is reduced - and the usefulness of the action choices is limited. Thane has it worst, given 2 actions on the bar, and the opponent having to not target Thane.

Nera Dantels with deadeye, flechette torps, munitions failsafe and accuracy corrector - infinite stress in a range 3 bubble to anything with 4 or less hull.

the biggest problem being that anything with 4 or less hull is either costing a lot less than your stressbubbles or is close to dying anyway.
