What would Maul's "The Nightbrother" Gauntlet Fighter do in X-wing?

By dewbie420, in X-Wing

Um... how is 52m twice 35m? It really isn't big enough for a Huge, the Ghost is 44m so it's only a tiny bit bigger than that, and much less bulky. Having a fighter as a Huge ship would also be really silly.

It's about halfway between the Ghost and a Gozanti.

In the film it didn't look so big.

I feel like the YV-666 should have this thing's wings and this thing should have the YV-666's wings.

Why a troop transport would have such colossally large wings is questionable, as it'd only be able to land in wide-open very flat areas (even with the wings "up").

It's great the cartoons are giving us new content to draw from, but wow some of the designs are very "un"-Star Wars. The Mandalorian designs just seem overly cartoonish in proportions and the spinning twisting pivoting wings are pretty goofy and absurd, even by the standards of Star Wars "physics."

TBH it probably can VTOL which means it can land in a lot smaller area than a smaller ship that needs a landing strip.

Thats a thing every starship in SW can do.

There is a reason most dropships are designed like flying bricks with high placed, foldable or no wings at all. It's the most efficient design.

The Gauntlet is less a troop transport than an gunship with a secondary troop-carrying role.

Only when landing, like the Upsilon.

When in battle it rotated around the body like the Fang.

BOTH!!! :D :D :D

Imagine the conversion headache THIS model would bring!

At 52 m, that's thing's twice as long as the YT-1300. Sounds like a Huge ship, not a fighter.

Well Scum is in need of an Epic ship and any Scum epic ship would be great.

It's too big for a large base ship, but too small to be an epic (10m smaller than the gozanti)

It's almost 10m longer than the ghost, that's over 20% bigger. Not "a tiny bit"

FFG are getting into trouble with the epic ship scale at this point

Well, the scale gets wonky when we talk about big ships.

Okay so the Ghost is supposed to be 44m and the model is about 16cm (ish, estimating here if someone has an exact measurement please correct me!). The GR-75 is 90m and the model is about 23cm. Epics are on a smaller scale so scaled up should be more like 30cm. So if it were scaled on the small ships, 52m would be about 19cm, on the larger scale 13cm.

That was kind of my point. the GR-75 is 90m length, and is the smallest Epic ship at the moment, I don't think 52m comes anywhere close to falling into the same category. for one thing you wouldn't be able to fit a 13cm model on 2 large bases, but a 19cm model may be too long for a single Large base.. though it is very thin.

It's tThe GR-75 isn't the smallest epic (actual size). The smallest (non-scaled) epic ship is the gozanti at ~63 meters. IIRC they designed the model for xwing for the gozanti at the same 1/270th scale as the non-epic ships. Even doing the same thing for the gauntlet makes it significantly smaller than either the gozanti or gr75 models. Unless they're gonna do the sliding scale like they do for other epic ships and make it the first epic ship to fit on a single large base instead of 2.oo big for a large base ship, but too small to be an epic.

Is it only me who thinks that it looks the same as the protectorate fighter, just a way bigger?

Remember, if you have to ask that the answer is no.

Also... Reading other posts might help.

It's about halfway between the Ghost and a Gozanti.

And the Gozanti is totally weird scale-wise with regard to other Epics. Probably because it has to be the correct scale to mount TIE fighters in it. So the Gozanti is actually the correct scale compared with the other ships like the falcon (64m vs 35m for the falcon). But it's at least as big if not bigger than the GR-75, which is 90m in the background, about 1.5x as big as the gozanti.

So the Epics are borked in size. I think this is a large-base ship, FFG can play a little loose with the scale and make it about the same length as the Ghost and it'd be workable. Alternatively, make it an Epic ship just a bit smaller than the gozanti and **** the fact that it's about as big as the 90m GR-75 and other epics. But my money is on a large base ship.

This badboy is so comming as a large ship...the only reason they havent announced it yet, is that they are still working hard on innovating the new custom "peg"/"stand", this badboy comes with....

I would imagine they would just scale it down like the Bat-Ren.

I would imagine they would just scale it down like the Bat-Ren.

Isn't there a lot of debate over whether that was scaled down? It may be that the Quadjumper was scaled up, but the Renmobile is the right size.
