What would Maul's "The Nightbrother" Gauntlet Fighter do in X-wing?

By dewbie420, in X-Wing

This bad boy's gotta be the S&V contender equivalent to the Rebel's Ghost and Kylo's 'Oopsie' Shuttle.

2-3 Crew, 4 Attack primary & 3 Attack rear arc, 2 Systems, at least 2 Illicits- with some very wicked, new upgrades with Maul himself.

(Edited a little so I'm not making any absolute opinions, just wanna talk about what stats and abilities this ship may have :) )

The idea that each faction needs equivalencies is not a great one.

You'll find no other small based ship has 4 natural attack dice and the cloak action.

yup. I re-worded it a little.

At 52 m, that's thing's twice as long as the YT-1300. Sounds like a Huge ship, not a fighter.

I think it would be fun, but then again, I think any new ship would be fun.

I'm not entirely sold on it, form should suggest function, and with it's sleak lines, it should be an aggressive fighter. Having 2 or 3 crew slots would make it something very different. TBH it should in some ways be filling the same function as the IG-2000, and I'm not sure we need 2 ships with that function.

The problem is the game does not differentiate between the ability to carry passengers, and having systems that can be used by crew.

After seeing it in the clone wars, it is really agile, and IT'S THAT BIG!!!!

That's the Star Wars logic behind the rotating wings.for both the Gauntlet and the Fang.

"Fighter" :/

Well Scum is in need of an Epic ship and any Scum epic ship would be great.

Um... how is 52m twice 35m? It really isn't big enough for a Huge, the Ghost is 44m so it's only a tiny bit bigger than that, and much less bulky. Having a fighter as a Huge ship would also be really silly.

Woah. This one's wings rotate about THAT axis? Weird!!! :D

Ignore the 'fighter' in the name, it's a big swooping manouverable long distance gunship/troop transport, nothing apart from the name says 'fighter', and it's as often refered to as a transport.

Given how manouverable they are, and the simple fact that they are only on the brink of being a huge, I think they would be better represented by a large. I just think that style of movement would be better for them.

Size matters not. (If it did, the VCX would be a huge ship.)

Make the Gauntlet the oversized Protectorate that it is. 4 attack, 2 agility, 6 hull, 3 shields. focus and target lock in the action bar. 1 torp, 1 missile, 1 crew in the upgrade bar. Make it strong in straight lines on the dial for that Protectorate-esque head-on combat style. Primary Arc only. Nightbrother title to add an illicit or two. Maul's pilot ability should add a focus result or allow you to change a focus result, maybe turn over a new leaf in game mechanics and let him to change focus results on rolls other than attack and defense.

FFG are getting into trouble with the epic ship scale at this point

Well, the scale gets wonky when we talk about big ships.

Okay so the Ghost is supposed to be 44m and the model is about 16cm (ish, estimating here if someone has an exact measurement please correct me!). The GR-75 is 90m and the model is about 23cm. Epics are on a smaller scale so scaled up should be more like 30cm. So if it were scaled on the small ships, 52m would be about 19cm, on the larger scale 13cm.

That was kind of my point. the GR-75 is 90m length, and is the smallest Epic ship at the moment, I don't think 52m comes anywhere close to falling into the same category. for one thing you wouldn't be able to fit a 13cm model on 2 large bases, but a 19cm model may be too long for a single Large base.. though it is very thin.

Only when landing, like the Upsilon.

When in battle it rotated around the body like the Fang.

Is it only me who thinks that it looks the same as the protectorate fighter, just a way bigger?

Made by the same company, and used by the same group so yeah they do look very similar.

It's about halfway between the Ghost and a Gozanti.

Also, for practical purposes, any model which has to appear in a show animated like Rebels has to be properly modeled/rigged/etc. So when the storyline hands you a good solid justification like "made by the same company from the same rough faction", so you can basically just slightly alter an asset you presumably already have (From the TCW days) to make a new ship, that's great.

If the go the same size as the Ghost route, I doubt they would allow it to have 3 crew. 2 yes maybe. The YV 666 a dedicated slaver with plenty of people space has 3 crew. I dont think it should have a rear arc as there isnt anything on it that I can see that says it can get decent firepower backwards. Also it is a Mandalorian ship, they dont really go for these kind of slots, but I do agree that it should have at least 1 System Upgrade. Going against the grain of Large ships it possibly could be a candidate for 3 agi, at least 2 though.

What Pilots would you have? Maul is the obvious one, but would you have Savage Oppress? Maybe another way to get Sabine onto a different ship and cross faction. She isn't on enough already....

Pre-Vizla and Bo-Katan used them didn't they?

When in battle it rotated around the body like the Fang.

Seeing this picture I just realised how ridiculous the connection between fuselage and wings is.

Even for SW design and materials thats pathetic. And in such a way that I think a model of this ship would suffer from clipping wings instantly.
