How would this change the game... specifically 2 different cards.
Vectored Thrusters/Engine Upgrade - 2 points. if installed on a large base shift increase point cost by 2.

It would likely make most upgrades either too cheap on small ships or too expensive on large ones.
PtL for example, if it were 2 points on a small ship it would become even more of a no-brainer. But 4 points on a Large ship could be too much. Unless your point is to create a large ship tax of some sort.

I believe he meant upgrade cards that are directly related to the base size (like the ones provide boost/barrel roll), and not the ones like PtL.
However, it is probably not a good idea. There are a tons of upgrade out there with real value depending on a certain characteristics of the ship. Using the same logic we should scale the cost of the Stealth Device by the AGI and hit point of the ship, VI should depend on the base PS, PtL cost should depend on the dial, etc.
That kind of system would be impossible to implement, simply because of the value of an upgrade card depends on many thing.
Edited by UbulI think the problem here is that Engine Upgrade is almost broken on large base ships. It probably should have been either Small only, or cost 6 points for large base ships. I think FFG learned from their mistake, which is why VT is small only.
Yes, I find EU is over priced for a small base, which is why I was thinking why not make it and VT the same price but with a multiplier for large base.
You wouldn't do all the cards.. just select ones that help with keeping things balanced. VT for example would be way too good on a large base ship for 2 points. but for 4 points on a small ship people would be crying at how expensive it is.
I think Engine Upgrade should be small ship only... or significantly more expensive. On small ships, I think it's probably overpriced, except when placed on high-PS aces. For that reason, I have considered having cards that whose points values are based on the Pilot Skill of the ship they're equipped to.
If it doesn't work (and I don't see why it wouldn't) to say "This upgrade costs X additional points if equipped to a large/small ship", then have two versions of the card, each with their own size limitation, and a different point cost. Give them different names and card art, if necessary, even though they have the same wording and effect.
Its too late to raise the price for large base ships but they could come out with a new card for small ships.
Upgraded Engine
Small ship only, 2 pts
Your upgrade bar gains the Boost Icon.
Barrel Roll's probably more useful anyway so VT does that job nicely.

agreed. which is one of the reasons I have dropped EU from Corran for a couple of months now and haven't noticed any issues in my game without it.

If you still have the points, I'd probably toss a shield upgrade on him. Pairs great with R2D2.
I think duel costs has merit as an idea, works for other systems.
Since the thread seems mostly inspired by 'boost' on a large ship being too powerful - as with the barrel roll for them, or cloak generally, the easiest "fix" is probably just errata.
Yeah it seems like engine upgrade is the most 'hated' for its power on large bases. I can see a case for other cards having differing costs too based on how effective they are on that ship. For example, stealth device might cost 1 point for each native agility a ship has, or PTL could cost 1 point for every action a ship has in its native action bar.

Thing there is that putting EU on Corran gives him access to double reposition which is significantly more valuable than single reposition.

How is this not a thing already?

yes, that boost rule change is a really good idea.
I agree, double re positioning could be the difference between getting shot and not getting shot, and I used it a lot. But since dropping EU on both my Falcon and Corran (usually run a Corran Fat Han build) I found I had 8 more points flexibility for additional points to fatten up Han.

That is not FFGs thinking. They only way to get Engine Upgrades is to purchase a large based ship, either the Millennium Falcon or the Hounds Tooth (Which was just a few waves ago, so there was plenty of learning time between the Falcon and Hounds Tooth.) EU is intentionally for large based ships.
Edited by JadotchI find it interesting that Engine Upgrade originally came with the Millenium Falcon. It's evident that for fluff purposes Enigine Upgrade was designed for larger ships. I think a ban for large ships isn't a viable solution, although I do like the alternative boost positioning referenced above.
Somewhat on/off topic, but someone needs to do a "Where is Dash" like Echolocation with a YT-2400 doing Movement + Leebo Boost + PTL to Burnout SLAM + Adv. SLAM to Barrel Roll.
Edited by kris40kI think, if they do an X-Wing 2.0, they might write upgrade cards with different point values for small and large ships like:
(Small/Large)
(2/4)
So that the price is posted right on the card itself.

Ill tell you where dash is
He's down a burn out SLAM and not shooting ![]()
The double sided card is a good design space for acknowledging differences in upgrade value across ship types. Hypothetically, EU could be an unrestricted mod costing 4 points on one side and then have a reverse side for small ships at a lower cost.
Make EU un-viable for big ships and you really wont see a yt-2400 or dec again in compatition.
I dont mind all that if you remove the 50% mov tax on large ships.

PTL to Burnout SLAM doesn't work.
You could do move>SLAM>ASLAM>Boost>BR though.

Why not? Burnout SLAM states your action bar gains the SLAM icon, so PTL should be able to trigger it.
