Arc-FUN

By lkb57, in X-Wing

Picked up to Arc-170s last week and was able to run my first list with them last night:

Norra Wexley (29)

Alliance Overhaul (0)

BB-8 (2)

Tail Gunner (2)

Seismic Torps (2)

Shara Bey (28)

Alliance Overhaul (0)

R7 Astromech (2)

Weapons Engineer (3)

Seismic Torps (2)

Biggs Darklighter (25)

Integrated Astromech (0)

R2-D2 (4)

Squad Total: 99

Probably not a competitive squad by any stretch, but I wanted to fly two Arcs and try out the new Seismic Torpedoes. My buddy was flying two Protectorates (Fen Rau and Old Teroch) and two Z-95s (N-Dru and Banana). I managed to catch three of his ships (both Protectorates and the Banana) next to two obstacles on the 2nd turn and had some Seismic Torp fun. The damage from that initial attack took his ships down far enough that I was able to mop up pretty easily after that. All in all, I was impressed with the Arc, the look sick on the table and are pretty fun to fly . . . not quite as sluggish as the Y-wing or B-wing, though they're still very slow on the turn around. I'm looking forward to trying out some more builds featuring the Arc . . . and that leads me to my question: what are other people running for Arcs?

I am 100% looking forward to Norra w/ Rey, and other stuff to flavor. But in the meantime, I've had quite a bit of success using Norra w/ PTL, R2D2, Kyle Katarn, Vectored Thrusters.

The downside is PTL is that you're left without your turn, but that's where Kyle can come in handy - you can get your TL+F the turn after you push without pushing again, leaving your dial open. Sure, this requires some forward thinking, but it can be very useful. Furthermore, you can still TL and PTL to Barrel Roll, getting your focus token from Kyle. I've surprisingly found myself using the TL more of defense than offense, but it makes her VERY difficult to kill if you can get her in a one on one, which in today's meta of 2-3 ships, isn't too difficult, especially if you have a bigger threat opposite of her (think Ghost or regen Poe).

I really dig your build!

I have one suggestion: Go all in on mobility and give Norra EU! To do that drop Biggs R2-D2 for R4-D6 (he won't survive long enough to regen anything anyways). Probably still not competetive, since Norra doesn't run regen, but fun as hell!

Norra REALLY wants BR not Boost. Trust me. Ive tried it. BR!

Until you end up in a mirror match.

Then you'll really, REALLY wish you had those 2 extra points when it goes to time.

Trust me. A little salty about that still.

In gameplay terms, yeah, BR is definitely better for Norra.

Sure, but he wants to use BB-8, can't roll twice! You can however roll+boost, which is pretty awesome.

On a standart regen Norra I would for sure use VTs instead! So great with the aux-arc...

If you're taking BB-8, another option is Nien Numb.

BB-8, Push The Limit, Nien Numb opens up the fast straights and lets you finish your turn unstressed - making for a much more nimble version (at a cost of the awesome tailgunner ability)

Put Adaptability on Shara to put her up to 7?

If you're not worried about regen this is really strong. It lets you get ships in your rear-arc, which is where you want to be.

That's awesome. I like it.

Bear in mind that the big problem with this build is not just losing R2-D2, but also losing tailgunner. You're going to need to do much more heavy lifting with the forward guns, or else are going to need external support to your attacks (like Shara Bey providing a second target lock and/or M9-G8 reroll) to deliver the same punch.

Bear in mind the title of the thread contains the long-forgotten word "fun" meaning the build doesn't have to have the same upgrades on it every time it's run.

Hey, I like that build; I prefer the 'get around the board' option. I'm just flagging up a warning. As long as you've got Shara to cover things off, it should work.

Here is my current list with Norra. I am a bit pushed for points as I wish I had tail gunner but I just can't afford it. Hmmm
