Building a survivable 55 point Imperial Firespray for large base 1v1 event

By Goseki1, in X-Wing Squad Lists

How would you do it? Has to be a named ship to face one other large based named ship, I want to try and make the Firespray work but I'm not sure how best to make it survive the inevitable HLC/ordnance shots.

I'm assuming at least lone Wolf (or VI on Boba?) and kallus, and take evade as an action. So when defending you get a guaranteed evade, you reroll a blank and automatically turn one eye to an evade.

But what about the rest? And which pilot?

Boba Fett with VI and Engine upgrade will help ensure enemies can't easily get into your blinds pot, but then you're not taking an evade action (still have lone Wolf and Kallus for rerolls/mods though). You could take Krassis Trellix and an HLC but no ept and low pilot skill :/

Really struggling to think of how best to make the Firespray win in match ups against HLCs and beasts like the Ghost and Decimator.

I... wouldn't.

I'd build a Decimator. RAC/Engine/Adaptability/Captive/Seismic Torpedo or some other 2 point upgrade - a bomb or a crew, maybe Flechette Torp.

Wouldn't be surprised if the PWTs are banned given a PWT on PWT 1v1 is quite literally just a dice game.

Lone Wolf and Rec Spec helps on two shots...

PWTs aren't banned, neither are any upgrade cards. Agree that the Firespray probably isn't the best choice;I wanted to take Kenkirk with Kallus, Lone Wolf, Ysanne Issard and Rebel captive, but I've flown the Decimator a lot and want to try a firespray.

Super-Dash!

Old point-fortress style builds like Fat Han with C-3PO look promising.

Here's a possibility:

Kath Scarlett (38)

- Tactician (2)

- Slave 1 (0)

- EM (2)

- Cluster Missiles (4)

- Guidance Chips (0)

- Thermal Detonators (3)

- Calculation (1)

- Autoblaster (5) [Just for giggles; it's pretty good on her but usually not worth the points]

But other posts are right, there are probably better options than imp Firespray. Here's a few other random ideas:

Tel Trevura (30)

- Punishing One (12)

- Unhinged Astromech (1)

- "Gonk" (2)

- PTL (3)

- Hull Upgrade (3)

- Rigged Cargo Chute (1) / BMSTs (1) [Depending on expected meta]

- Plasma Torps (3)

IG-88D (36)

- VI (1)

- FCS (2)

- HLC (7)

- Glitterstim (2)

- Autothrusters (2)

- Aggressor (0)

- Proton Bombs (5)

Good suggestions there but I only have a Decimator (wouldn't bother with an engine upgrade, seems a waste in a PWT v PWT match up) and an Imperial Firespray.

If you want an Imperial Firespray, I propose this:

Boba Fett (39)
Lone Wolf (2)
Agent Kallus (2)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Total: 47

That's the basic framework. You have 7 points to play with. I say 7 points instead of 8 points for the same reason that I went with Boba Fett over Kath Scarlet (who has a better pilot ability), and that's because I'm just afraid enough of RAC to want to be PS8 with a 1pt bid. Could be that I'm nuts though.
From there, you can add either an HLC to dish out damage and hope you're action efficient enough to win the day, or you can try and get tricky and go with Ion Bomb, Extra Munitions, and Ion Pulse Missiles. Other large base ships will be especially susceptible to Ion Pulse missiles, and if anybody tries to show up with Zuckuss or PtL, the Ion effect will be fairly threatening.
Cluster Missiles will also be effective with Agent Kallus and Lone Wolf, if you want another alternative for face womping.
If you think that the only way you can win is by going heavy control, you can drop Kallus in favor of Rebel Captive, who is great, although I would personally take Kallus in this format, as he's insane efficient in a 1v1 scenario, especially with Lone Wolf.

Cheers Markham, agree that the Boba build you mentioned is probably best, with an HLC. I can avoid probably at least 2 damage a turn, so even against full 4 Dice hits should last 5 rounds. Enough to take out RAC with my HLC, maybe enough to take out Kenkirk if I get lucky. God knows about Dengar et al though XD

Pretty much either this or:

Kath Scarlet (38)

  • Lone Wolf (2)
  • "Mangler" Cannon (4)
  • Engine Upgrade (4)
  • Rebel Captive (3)

And still 4 pts to tinker with. Wolf/Kallus is still insanely effective and RAC is real threat, but there's the choice...

Why RAC as the real threat above other ships? He'll go down to 4 well rolled HLCs

Why RAC as the real threat above other ships? He'll go down to 4 well rolled HLCs

Only if he's in their arc.

Big turrets with higher PS are probably going to be a very difficult match for you. Han Solo, RAC, and Dengar.

I'd put my money on a fat Kenkirk or Dengar to win it. Probably Dengar.

Fat Kenkirk is definitely the list I'm edging towards. Dengar is the one I can see winning outright though.

This is probably the ship to beat:

Dengar (33)
Lone Wolf (2)
Recon Specialist (3)
R5-P8 (3)
Glitterstim (2)
Punishing One (12)
Total: 55
with this as the second favorite
Commander Kenkirk (44)
Lone Wolf (2)
Ysanne Isard (4)
Agent Kallus (2)
Rebel Captive (3)
Total: 55
Defensive Chewie also may have a place here, if he can avoid Dengar arcs and stay out of range one, with the ability to mitigate 3 damage per turn.
Chewbacca (42)
Lone Wolf (2)
R2-D2 (Crew) (4)
C-3PO (3)
Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)
Millennium Falcon (1)
Total: 54

Kallus, rec spec, or ysanne would be your go to crew for durability.

Since you'll likely see a bunch of pwt's, outmaneuver and tail Gunner would be a nice surprise to turn all your foes into juicy 0 agility boats.

If anyone's interested I won 3 lost 2 with fat Kenkirk. One loss to Dengar and another to a war of attrition with an imperial Firespray (it had 1 Hull left) . Kept forgetting about rebel captive which didn't help!

One of the Dengar players won all 5 games which isn't hugely surprising. Was a really fun format though.
