The average ship for me is the B-wing. What's yours?

Starviper. Guri in the Starviper is my favorite ship in my favorite list. If I'm not flying scum, then I'm flying the lambda. And NOT with palpatine, not often anyway lol. I like to use systems officer and fleet officer, with advanced sensors shenanigans.

I wonder why....

In theory, it should be the X-Wing. After all the game is named after it. But sadly, my X-Wings don't see quite as much action as my other ships. I have ships for all three factions but I tend to favour the Scum and any Scum list usually features a couple of M3-As. Although, the Protectorate Starfighter might replace those as soon as I get some.

HWK-290s are pretty average. Lots of 'em exist (rebels and scum) and none of them are completely overpowered OR completely nerfed (although I don't see the high PS rebels as much anymore)

I'll second the starviper. Solid stat line, solid dial. can hold its own if you spend the points to do so.

How would pilots skill 9 be average? Wouldn't 5 be average? Well come to think of it only a few non-unique pilots have pilot skill 5 so maybe 3 is average. So in that case

I have a spreadsheet with every pilot in the game. Based on dice, pilot skill, dial, etc., the average for the entire game is Biggs. His stats match closest to the calculated numbers.

I'd say the T-65 X-wing as the most average.

This will sound crazy but I consider Soontir Fel to be the 'average' ship. When flown poorly, implodes instantly, when flown well can dominate the game, has many soft counters that work well but can be overcome, and is what most other ships are compared to when trying to build a competitive list in every faction. I think at this point in the development of xwing Soontir has become the average ship.
