Modder's vehicle; Hutt Repulsorsled? Jetpack? Jump Boots?

By K4R2, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So if a Hutt spends his time exclusively on a hutt repulsorsled, as it seems many hutt are wont to do, would Modder not be an ideal choice for his specialization?

And taking the idea further, for non-hutt characters, how about a modder using a Jetpack or Jump Boots as their signature vehicle?

Depends on what kind of Hutt you’re talking about. Most Hutts don’t want to do anything for themselves — they have minions for that. So, they would be very unlikely to have Modder as a Spec.

That said, there isn’t anything stopping them from doing that early in their life, before they get more sedentary. However, they might not need a repulsorsled at that early stage, but they might need it later on.

As for Jetpack, it is not technically a vehicle. It allows you to fly as if you were a vehicle, but it is not a vehicle itself.

At least, not unless your GM says it is.

Maniacal, diseased Hutt in a repulsor chair.Visions of Baron Harkonnen. I think I have a new NPC idea.

The 'Fancy Paint Job' talent would be perfect for a Hutt, and if you went Rigger instead, 'Black Market Contacts' would fit pretty good too.

The thought of a twisted Hutt in some sort of automated hover-harness could certainly be frightening . . . and fun!

Could she Fancy Paint Job herself then? (e.g. Star Wars Rebels!)

Brad Knowles is write about the RAW, but personally if I were your GM I would allow it and if you had both modder and rigger I would allow you to have 2 signature vehicles (e.g. a starship and a planetary mode of transportation such as speeder or jet pack) and split the sum of your silhouettes between them any way you liked but that is definitely not RAW (Rules As Written)

He's been shown as a bit independent and probably not prone to lazing about on a repulsor sled, but Dr. Oggurobb (from The Old Republic franchise) came to my mind almost at once when I pondered the phrase "Hutt Modder." :)

Me and my GM in a game I play in got into a discussion recently about the idea of hardpoints on "almost" vehicles like jetpacks and hover boots. The root of that discussion was actually what attachments would make sense on a Swoop. Canonically, we've seen the Fetts fire off a one-use missile from their jetpacks, which in my mind exonerates a vehicle-scale hardpoint to equip a weapon (albeit a vehicle weapon with a Min Silhoutte of 1, ostensibly). So there is reasonably precedent for treating jetpacks as vehicles and just using common sense (my GM joked about installing a Holo Tank on hover boots!)
