Tabletop Gaming is Good For Our Mental Health

By Greggoman, in X-Wing Off-Topic

For all the hobbyists who have ever suffered from mental health issues such as depression or anxiety or those that want to keep there mental wellbeing in check this video discusses the therapeutic benefits of our hobby. I talk in response to an article by Geek and Sundry which looks at using Dungeons and Dragons as a therapeutic intervention for children with learning difficulties and expand that to discuss how it can be applied to all us us.

Great video, thanks for posting :)

I grew up in the 80's and I believe that Dungeons and Dragons will turn you into a devil worshipper. Just look at a young Tom Hanks and how he's running around steam tunnels and knifing people. Next thing you know someone is going to start listening to Heavy Metal music and playing records backwards. It's all satanic, I tell you!!!!!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. This is what I had to deal with as I played a lot of DnD in the 80's.

Actually, I started playing again with my son. I started playing in 4th grade and when he hit 4th grade and was showing an interest in all my old DnD stuff....I started a campaign for him and his friends....and another Dad. I made sure to ask all the parents first. The other Dad told me that his wife was actually a little freaked out. She asked that didn't it lead to Satanism. He laughed and said that he played growing up. I was pretty surprised by that as she's a smart and normal person. I usually agree with most things she says. So, it was surprising that she had that attitude. We have been playing for a while in the World of Greyhawk and I'm taking them through a mix of new and old adventures. They are almost 5th level now. :)
