Homemade X Wing Title:

By grandmoffjoe, in X-Wing

S-Foils - attack

Title, Dual Card, X wing only

When Attacking, you may change 1 attack die result to (eye). At the end of the combat phase start of the planning phase, you may flip this card.

S-Foils - cruise

Title, Dual Card, X wing only

Do not remove unspent focus or evade tokens from your ship, you cannot have more than one of either. At the end of the combat phase start of the planning phase, you may flip this card.
That's right folks. It's not just an Xwing fix, it's an R3 astromech fix! If they're going to give me 2 with every ARC-170, I'd like to at least have a use for them.
Edited so the timing on the card actually works. And to make it a title.

Comm relay....

Anyways your card might be to strong, in either form. For attacking at least you gave everyone poe's ability without the need to have a focus token... pretty **** strong.

I know this isn't really the 'point' and there are many titles and ways to fix the x-wing. But something about this s-foil card suggestion people keep giving really urks me.

S-Foils do not go from locked/unlocked during dogfights people! gah!

They lock into attack position for the duration of the fight. They don't swap back and forth in the middle of a dogfight. thats just ridiculous. **nerdgasm.

Totally did in the videogames.

Can't be too strong if it doesn't have a cost. Cost it whatever you want. Also it's not changing (eye) to (hit), it's changing (whatever-usually a blank) to (eye).

This gets weird with Jan. You can lock in focuses and evades on turn 2. With that advantage, I'd consider never switching the foils.

It's a safe bet that any T-65 X-Wing fix is going to have SOMETHING to do with S-Foils. Based on the U-Wing's dual card I think it's going to be similar to that.

The other notion I had for attack was "when attacking, you may add one (eye) result to your roll". Again, just dicking around here, so cost it whatever you think is fair, but perhaps this slightly more extreme take would fit your taste better?

Oh hey I just realized i fracked up the timing. Gonna edit the original.

Speaking of costs i'd honestly start this at 4.

Adaptive ailerons, alliance retrofit, and spec forces training all seem to support that notion. On the other hand, none of the ships with titles like that come in starter boxes.

S-foils are dumb

Also why would a T-65/T-70 title have S-Foils when Black Leader is already a title? Are we saying Poe doesn't have S-Foils?

Poe's S-foils are tied up being locked in the "awesome" position.

Ive been swayed by the s foils dont flap about posts. So i could see it being something like: you cannot attack. At the start of the combat phase you may discard this title to take a free action. just double actions once at ps awesome.

I mostly looked at the R3 astro and asked myself "what on earth would I do to make this **** thing worth taking". As far as S-foils go, I think that is a much more elegant solution.

Poor r3, i think A fix will reduce the cost of generic droids, which is why he is 2 points. So manny droids will become worth thinking about when free or 1 point. Or we will have some pilot adding [eye] results.

I like this title in concept, but in practice, I think it exacerbates the X-Wing's issue.

Specifically: Poe is really good. Blue Squadron Novice and Rookie Pilot are not. This title helps the low PS ships, but helps Poe even more . And so I don't think we'll be seeing Rookie or Blue Squadron Novice on the table.

A good way to do this might be to limit it to PS 4 or lower. It would keep Blue Ace from being able to take it (boo!), but also Biggs. I'm not sure Biggs needs the help. :/

By far the easiest homebrew fix I have found is to simply make the X-Wing attack 4. It is too stiff and too fragile for it to become the menace that Phantoms were, and gives an in-game justification for the 4 giant laser cannons it is sporting.

Give it a try sometime. you will find that 2 Agl, 5 health, and no re-positioning makes it uniquely dangerous if you fly straight at it but not OP in the grand scheme of things.

My Force Vision:

The S-foil Dual card is coming. But it will not be the definitive "fix" that everyone will be happy with. It will be for all x-wings including the T-70 and T-85 or whatever the Hell the next one is. Maybe a nobrainer auto-include card like Alliance Overhaul: zero point mod allows another modification.

FFG will repair the ol' X-wing by giving us many choices and combos to improve it... without being a big Bacta-Bandaid, that just buffs the beast. It will be like some of the new options recently that add a little extra layer to the T-65 onion (example, Integrated Astromech).

They figured it out and are just easing us in, being gentle... and of course timing it out just right for the new movie.

But in short time, FFG will print a crap ton of the S-foil Dual Cards and ticker tape parade those badboys until we all have em.
