Twin-comet Old World Tokens

By rashktah, in Chaos in the Old World

Hi!

One question popped up during our first 'CitOW' game today.

What happens if a twin-comet Old World card leaves the play area (ie gets bootet out of the two card spaces for active Old World cards by newly drawn (but non twin-comet) OW cards that remain in play) without getting repaced by a new twin-comet Old World card?

Do the event tokens stay in play but without any effect (as their twin-comet OW card has already left the game) or are they removed from the board?

Thanks for any help!!! :)

Those event tokens remain in play with no effect until a new OW card defines them. (Pg. 24 of rulebook)

There could be some card effect I've missed, but there really is no reason to leave them on the board (other than that's what the rules say.) Once the card which placed them leaves the game, they no longer have any effect. Also, all "twin-tailed comet" cards begin with the text "Remove all event tokens from the board...". So...they have no effect, and the next card which will place new event tokens on the board tells you to remove any other event tokens already there.

We just remove ours when the card which placed them leaves play. The board is visually "crowded" enough as it is without having extra "no effect" markers on it.

(I realize expansion event cards could change this........)

Thanks for your answers.

We have had removed the tokens from the board, too. :)

For these rules that don't make sense (since there is no effect) I can only assume that 1) there are expansion cards in the works that might make it applicable 2) there were cards cut at the last minute that needed this rule in effect or 3) most likely, the function changed over the course of play-testing and they didn't go back and change the rule.
