Tournament Bomber List....No Yavaris :p

By SmurfWedge, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

What do you think of the below.....I haven't had a chance to playtest yet....first run out will be a tournament :o

Looks decent enough I think and should be fun to fly

I have a 13 point bid but was torn between keeping it or throwing XX9's onto the Assault Frigs and having a 3 point bid

Any thoughts welcome

Points: 387/400

Commander: General Dodonna

Assault Objective: Most Wanted
Defense Objective:
Fleet Ambush
Navigation Objective: Superior Positions

[Flagship] Assault Frigate Mark II B (Bulwark) (72 points)
- General Dodonna (20 points)
- Skilled First Officer (1 points)
- Flight Controllers (6 points)
- Boosted Comms (4 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures (7 points)

Assault Frigate Mark II B (Etherhawk) (72 points)
- Skilled First Officer (1 points)
- Flight Controllers (6 points)
- Boosted Comms (4 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures (7 points)

GR-75 Medium Transports (Radiant Light) (18 points)
- Quantum Storm (1 points)
- Toryn Farr (7 points)

GR-75 Medium Transports (Solar Wind) (18 points)
- Bright Hope (2 points)
- Bomber Command Centre (8 points)

4 X-Wing Squadrons (52 points)
3 Y-Wing Squadrons (30 points)
2 Scurrg H-6 Bombers (32 points)
1 Jan Ors (19 points)

I've looked at doing a similar list (same ships, same fighter/bomber concept) with literally just a swarm of Xs and 2 BCCs. Which I decided was ridiculous, and I like your setup better. Some thoughts from my experimenting:

I'd differentiate the frigates–keep flight controllers on one and put gunnery teams on the other. The one with flight controllers takes expanded hangar bay so that you can activate all 4 Xs plus something else with a token (probably Jan) to get a superior alpha fighter strike. You'd really be investing too much in fighter superiority at the cost of not getting Gunnery Teams on a ship that wants gunnery teams. With Toryn on the flotilla, you're really set to go with just the one flight controller.

If you were to put XX9s on something, I'd only put it on the GT frigate and move boosted comms to Bright Hope. This way the GT frigate can focus on CF commands to help generate the necessary damage to effectively use XX9s, and Bright Hope can stay safe (thus becoming a comfortable spot for Dodonna).

I'd also really want either Comms net or another BCC on the other transport. Either of those would get much more use than XX9s. If you do nothing else before your tournament, I'd put some sort of fleet support on there. Dual BCCs is great with single-die bombers.

I see no BWings!

That all looks good. I would consider boosted comms on Bright Hope.

Potentially Leia on Bright Hope instead of SFOs.

Also I would switch the names of the flotillas around.

I would swap out most wanted for Precision Strike. Not many people are going to want to have a bomber competition with that.

Personally, I don't get much out of boosted comms. I would strip both and add a turbolaser upgrade to each frigate.

Some of the above makes a lot of sense. I like gunnery teams and usually take them....was just considering flight controllers on both so that the Y-Wing and Scurggs can also contribute to anti fighter if necessary.....although you're right....probably not required.

Hmm. Lots of food for thought

Boosted Comms on Bright Hope makes sense. Can stay a bit back and do the business.

Will definitely switch the names around. Makes a lot more sense that way. :D

I took most wanted as with a transport its worth pretty much nothing. A nice juicy ISD or MC80 is great points.....although this is a mute point. I think with either objective the opponent will not be choosing it

The reasoning behind boosted comms is that sometimes I find myself out of range to activate squadrons. Nothing more frustrating than that.

I see a lot of people use boosted comms. I just don't find them useful, thats all. I usually hold Rebels squads back and hurl them in at the last moment. This means that they don't normally stray all that far from me. Your strategies could be different a d boosted comms works.

Though I missed that you didnt have gunnery teams. I woukd shave points and get those in. With only two ships that can hit, you need to guarantee two shots with each if possible.

The logic behind Most Wanted is sound.

Yeah am thinking of running the AF's around the edges as much as possible and the boosted comms might just give me the edge to enable them to manoeuvre away and still be able to command squadrons.

That's the thinking anyway....remains to be seen how it pans out

I have since amended the list and took out one flight controllers as suggested and added in a GT on the one AF

So changed from flight controllers to gunnery teams on one AF and then added comms net onto the Toryn Farr GR75. This still leave me with a 10 point bid.

If you want to spend more points, but don't want to give up the bid, you could grab Luke for the Dodonna synergy.

Any thought of trying out Gallant Haven? All those speed 3 squadrons could potentially work well with the title. It would help mitigate the alpha strike of anything that's faster than you.

Maxed out on squads so that would mean having to drop 2 squadrons to fit him in. Don't know if it's worth it.

With Yavaris and Adar Talon on the other hand it would be very powerful.

I like the idea of Gallant Haven but I've never been able to make it work. My squads tend to be out of range of it most of the game. So you reckon take Gallant and don't worry about a bid?

Oh yeah that old pesky squadron limit.

Needs a big reshuffle, but flight commander will solve your problems.

Screw the bid, take the XX9's :)
