Homing Missiles vs Omega Leader

By Goseki1, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So interesting conversation the other day:

Tomax Bren with homing missiles, shooting them at Omega Leader, who has Tomax target locked.

Homing Missiles read: the defender cannot spend evade tokens during this attack.

Omega leaders abilityreads reads reads:Enemy ships that you have locked cannot modify any dice when attacking you or defending against your attacks.

So, if Omega Leader has Tomax Bren target locked and has an evade token, and Tomax Bren fires a homing missile, is Omega Leader allowed to spend the evade token?

Does stopping the spending of a token (as per homing missiles card) count as modifying the attack?

No.

Stopping Omega Leader is not a modification.

Same goes for abilities like Carnor Jax.

That's how we ended up resolving it (not letting Omega Leader spend his evade) buy thought it was worth checking. He blew up quickly to the homing missiles, :D

No, it doesn't. Modifying dice is limited to:-

  • Adding
  • Rerolling
  • Changing

Excluding the evade with the homing missile is not one of these actions and so can be used (ie 4LOM works as well)

Tomax fires his homing missiles and Omega leader stops Tomax from any modification on the attack. The homing missiles stops Omega Leader from spending his evade token. And that's where all the "stopping" stops. Omega Leader could still modify his defense dice with a focus token if he had one.

No both because OL spending his own token is not the enemy ship modding dice, hes modding his own dice which his card has nothing to do with (DO NOT bring up certian cards that "force the attacker to reroll a die" as those have been covered many many times to still be the ship forcing the reroll to be modding, not the ship doing the reroll) and also because spending a token =/= modding dice. If theres ever a reason to spend a focus while OL has you TL'd and its not modding your dice/his dice, for instance, its perfectly legal to do so. Though right now i think the only example is Kanan pilot can reduce the dice OL throws initially with a focus.

Which is why i like homers. Oh you got a banked evade from comm relay? Cool...dont care.

Yeah the homing missiles are delicious. With Crack shot they're even better. And guidance chips vs non Omega Leaders.

No, it doesn't. Modifying dice is limited to:-

  • Adding
  • Rerolling

The first item is ambiguous.

Adding specific results after the roll is modifying.

Adding extra dice before the roll is not.

Drive-by citation: Rules Reference p13 "Modifying Dice"

Adding dice is referring to adding a specific result "Add a Hit result"

Rolling extra dice is not adding dice. Thus, its not modifying dice. Same thing for rolling less dice (ala Kanan pilot). Note that every time you increase how many dice you roll, the wording specifically says "You may roll 1 extra dice" not "Add one die to your pool" - see Mauler Mithil for example.
