Star Viper, whats worth keeping?

I'm picking up the Star Viper to get the Autothrusters, but I have no use for the ship so will probably Ebay it. What else is worth keeping out of it? I play as Imperials but also have some rebels if that makes a difference.

Accuracy Corrector, certainly. I like Calculation in a lot of lists, but rarely in Imperial lists. Everything else is Scum only or crap.

Well I suppose if you play some rebels, Inertial dampeners is worth considering with the Heroes of the resistance pack coming out.
I guess you have hull upgrade from imperial aces, so no need there :P

The Model itself is sweet, worth keeping. Place it in a nice spot in a vitrine together with an X-Wing and a TIE/IN or so, ;-)

I don't understand the constant whining about an X-Wing fix (because it received one), but this ship was DOA like (arguably) the TIE Advanced and the Defender; even the A-Wing, TIE Interceptor, Y-Wing, etc. received bumps up the ladder to make them usable. The three ships that absolutely need a fix are the Punisher, Scyk and the Starviper. Their pilot abilities are cool, but they neeeeeeeeeds something. Maybe a Scum Veterans pack?

Guri coming in at almost 40 points is waaaay too much for a PS 5 ace. I love the Viper, it just isnt competitive on a tournament scene. I bought 2, I would love them to be useful, but the title being a unique doesnt help things any.

I think it has been suggested they do a Scum Aces with the Khirax and the Viper and do a Scum huge ship with a Hutt barge with the Scyk being the small ship.

Everything about the viper is fine except it's point cost. Stats, pilots, etc are all fine.

I absolutely disagree that this ship was DOA when it came out. I flew it with 5 Z-95's and did very well. There were threads of a few guys in the UK placing in top tables at events there. I learned how to defeat Fat Turrets with it, which were big at the time. In a small event with some very good players (who won regionals), I was able to beat them with it, but lost to my first game vs. Bro Bots. I learned how to play vs. Bro Bots and went to my Regionals. My last game had my dice go horribly cold. If they were average, I would've made Top 16 at my event. I think that people thought it was DOA and never bothered to try it. TLT's then killed it, though.

I not really fond of the S&V faction but the Viper reminds me of Empire at War and is the most unique ship. So it's different and I fought against it in a PC Game. Good enough I suppose.

Honestly I collect a maximum of two each small based S&V just for flavor. With two each I'll never spam or be competitive but it give me something different to field in fun casual games.

For what it's worth, I've gone undefeated in 2 local tournaments in a row with Guri, Palob, Manaroo. I've also never lost a practice game with it either. Something like 12-0 with it now, though the final table in the second tournament was decided by final salvo, which was awesome.

The starviper is my favorite ship in the game. It's not easy to use, but properly supported, it's amazing. Guri always feasts for me.

Is it worth the hassle of ebaying it? There's one on ebay UK at the moment for 6.99 as a buy it now, so after ebay take their cut he will get just over £6. Plus thats the price he wants rather than the price someone is willing to pay for it (I can see a bit further down that someone in the US is auctioning it for $5 and hasn't got any bids yet....).

It may be worth keeping hold of it; in all likely hood it will get some sort of update at some point in the future.

As a man that bought one, and then 2 more after playing the one, keep it.

If you really want a DOA ship, it's any non-Corran E-wing. I'd have the top 3 as Scyks, E-wings, Punishers, with the Viper coming into 4th.

I never said she was bad, I think she is great. But a kitted out Guri comes in around 41 points versus a kitted out Darth Vader for 37. That is a big points discrepancy in my opinion.

Well since I like the Punisher over the others I think the Punisher should come in a first so it get's fixed first. :lol:

Yeah the Viper is over-costed for sure. But you did say it's not competitively viable, and I've got anecdotal evidence that it's not the case.

Attanni Mindlink in the above list changes the Viper from an over-costed inefficient mess, to an incredibly efficient killing machine. If all 3 ships bump and don't get actions, the list still generates up to 5 focus tokens and a target lock. But the most important thing is the action draining quality. Between blocking, Manaroo's TL relocation, palob's thievery, and Guri's sensor jammer, and enemy squad bogs down into a horribly inefficient mess.

So in general, you're right, but in the right list, I'll gladly take Guri over Vader. While Vader's ability is the best in the game, he's only got one action (barrel roll) that I can't manipulate on some level.

The Viper doesn't really need a fix so much as a cost reduction. The PS1 generic should be 23 points so you can take 4 with autothrusters. Other then that, the Viper can really hold its own.

I feel like Xizor and Guri both would have been fine, even at the overly high cost, if they'd both been 2 pilot skill higher. If Xizor were native PS9, he'd be able to take a real EPT that helped with his action efficiency, rather than being married to VI.

If Guri (whose ability already gives her decent action efficiency) had been PS7, she'd have been able to take VI to go up to PS9 and then be fairly solid, thanks to her PS9 positioning and sweet ability.

Oh well. Hold on to your Viper. I'm sure the Starviper fix is in the pipeline somewhere, and if the fix is announced the day after you Ebay this thing, you'll just want to go out and buy a new one.

If that would be the case a fix for the viper would be impossible. Guri is intentionally limited by her pilot skill and that is ok. The price of the viper itself is not ok and both things have been mentioned by Alex in a podcast. If Guri would be PS7 then the StarViper would be in the E-Wing situation.

The only reason I was planning to send it is because I don't see myself collecting anymore scum & villain shis.

Isn't it easier to just find the AutoThrusters through an online vendor and just buy them?

I think I have been taken out of context. Winning at a local tournament is one thing, the Viper seen in a top 16 cut is a totally different story.
