To be fair to the OP last year they announced the new core set at midnight

The midnight release was for the big box stores. And the only thing for X-Wing you find in those are core sets, which we were pretty certain we weren't getting a new version of.

Now about that release … wave 9 seems to have some release issues with their german distributor … if it still is their distributor … as it seem not to distribute original FFG products anymore …

I got mine without any trouble? The Asmodee change suggests that Heidelberger won't keep X-Wing for much longer, but so far I haven't heard of that being set into motion.
Last year, Force Friday was a larger retailer event with multiple midnight releases of items. This year, it's a smaller affair with only Toys-R-Us opening at midnight. There's also no leaks from FFG regarding any new releases.
I think it's reasonable to assume an announcement is coming at normal business hours today, in 3-4 hours.

Not just Toys R Us but yes I would say this year that if anything is coming it is at normal business hours and is most likely an announcement and not a release this time. Maybe a new product that will be released soon or on they day of the movie maybe.

Both my FLGSs told me that they don't know if they ever get english language versions of wave 9. But the details on the new deal seem not to be out yet … at least I have no heard anything new on it. There is still Esdevium and amazon.co.uk, so it's not a big deal, but I really prefer to bring my money to my local stores instead.

I'm assuming it'll be Rogue One related so either a rogue one set (Partisan Aces X&YWings) or an article about the U Wing and Striker.

We just had Wave 9 release, HotR is literally on the "any day now" countdown, and Wave 10 is due in just a couple of months. Exactly how much is enough that you need to bemoan the lack of midnight news on an arbitrary day like "Force Friday" about further releases?

I have that much disposable income, and even this crazy rush of product (as I play Armada and Imperial Assault too) is a bit overwhelming right now. I alway like it when there's a bit of a lull between things so.. you know... I can actually play with my toys without everyone going on and on about what's coming three or more months from now.
To be fair, aside from the fact that Wave 9 was released last week, FFG has no obligation to release or announce anything on Force Friday. The only Star Wars articles that was posted on September 30th last year was a preview for the Rogues and Villains ships in Star Wars Armada and a preview of the Hired Guns character expansion for Imperial Assault. And neither of those seemed like they were released to mark Force Friday.
