Best ship in the game?

By Shadow345, in X-Wing

in terms of raw power, probably the JM5K.

In terms of universal use, defender.

JM5K will outgun, outfly, and outtech a lot of ships for a stupid low cost, but since its a large base and still costs more than half your list its about all you got. You list around it, or you dont take it.

Defenders especially with x7 are THE safest addition to pretty much any list. They have no glaring weakness, or strength really, theyre so average (or slightly above average) that you can slap one into any random list and they'll do work. Defenders are so cookie-cutter easy to use i find it difficult sometimes to NOT add one and try flying other ships now and then lol. Ever since Vets dropped, a defender is usually my 3rd ship after i concoct some odd behavior with the other 2 and see i got 30-34pts left

Seriously Soontir is awesome but he's killable, there are so many ways to deal with him, especially with the new stuff from wave 9 BMST, Sabine etc. Not to mention he's 35 points and needs an additional 29 point palp shuttle as an insurance policy.

But like, the questions wasn't "What's unkillable" it was "What's the best in the game".

If you mean best ship (regardless of pilot) then I would say for its points the Tie Defender delivers the "best".

If you mean "best" pilot (regardless of the ship he is on), that's easily Darth Vader. (If only his ship would deliver as strongly, almost though).

Bleak is probably 100% correct if we're talking about ships or pilots, but if we're talking about best ship+pilot combo for the points, it's probably Soontir.

At first I wanted to argue against it, because I personally do not like to fly Soontir, because he's so hated against and people often build lists with hard answers to him, but then I realized that the reason he's hated against is because he's the thing you should fear. Whenever I build a list, I ask myself "how does this deal with Soontir?", and that should probably tell us something.

I'd still like to see a definition from the OP as to what he means by "best". It's so open as to be meaningless.

But let's say he means favorite. For me that's going to be VI Ello Asti with Vectored Thrusters. It's an X-Wing with all the repositioning you could possibly hope for. Not the most efficient or effective, but certainly the most fun to fly.

X-WING!

I dunno....

I keep using the E Wing, Falcon, and T65 in my recipes. People tell me I'm wrong... but I finally started winning games with two different lists.

list 1:

Poe - Adaptability, AT, R5P9

Wedge - Adaptability, IA, R2D2

Jan Ors - Adaptability, Dorsal Turret, KJ

list 2:

Han Solo - Predator, Ezra, KJ, Title

Corran - FCS, PTL, R2D2

I also ran a double E wing list last weekend and it did better than expected...

2 Blackmoon w/Sensor Jammer, Hull upgrade, and targeting astromech

2 Bandit squad pilots

so for me... I love my E Wings

Oh, I'm really torn. I love the Tie Bomber and think it's competitive, even if everyone disagrees with me. Still....I'm going to be focusing on Epic play for a while and I think I'm going to go with Raider.

If you want to say most OP ship.....then I'll go with Soontir Fel. He got my vote for WORST ship in the game as he's so OP than he just bends the meta around him. For example, I don't think U-boats are that nasty, it's just that you have to build a list that can beat them.....AND beat Imp Aces. There are lots of things that can kill U-boats, but they die to Imp Aces. So, is the problem really U-boats? Or is it that we have come to accept Soontir Fel as the default ship that your list has to beat? Evidence for my case is all the anti-Soontir stuff that FFG has been pumping out for the past couple waves. Also, the idea of pushing jousting as more of an option over arc dodging.

You also don't really need to build a list to beat Soontir as stuff that's good against Soontir is also good against almost any other ace. To kill Soontir you need to deal stress or block him or have a reliable way of pushing damage through defense dice. All of these things work well against most other aces.

I never said he wasn't killable, but you have to have the tools in your list to beat him. If you don't, you will be hurt. It's not as bad as the Tie Phantom. I think PTL Aces overall are the nastiest thing in the game, and Soontir is the king of them. I agree and am happy there are a lot of things lately that have come out to defeat Soontir, specifically BMST, but do recognize that they have been working on all sorts of little things to counter him as he's been pretty strong since Auto Thrusters brought him back into the spotlight. I think your list has to have the tools to defeat Aces or you have to be very experienced in flying against them.

Personally, I don't think U-boats are overpowerful. It's just the lists that beat them can't compete vs. Imp Aces. If you want to beat U-boats, you just mass firepower at a slightly higher PS than them. Use your own ordnance or just firing. Kill one before they fire and then have more ships than they do. If they kill one of yours a turn, they will run out of Torpedoes before you come close to running out of ships.

What do you mean by best? If I was alone wondering the Galaxy (meaning only one ship, points not relevant), it would defiantly be the Outrider with Lonewolf, HLC, Rey, Smuggling Compartments, Black Market Slicer and Anti-Pursuit Laser. If you are considering points, the Contracted Scout hands down.

If I was alone, wandering the galaxy, I'd like to travel with Rey too...

Omega Leader and Carnor Jax. Why no one has mentioned Carnor Jax?

Eh, Sabine's more my type. ;) closer age to.

Bossk and his party bus.

I wish the Punisher could deliver more for its name and appearance.

My argument for J5k over Soontir is that all competitive lists should have tools for taking down arc Dodgers and high value aceswhich includes Soontir (I wholeheartedly agree that he was the King of PTL aces but perhaps if BMST take off we won't see anywhere near as much ace PtL anymore) but jumpmasters are more of a "build this to kill them" deal.

My main point however in terms of Soontir>not op jumpmasters>op is that Soontir takes skill and luck to fly well. If you screw up you have a pretty good chance of getting dead real quick. The torpedo boat however (which comes in cheaper than Soontir quite often) doesn't take anywhere near the level of skill required to fly arc Dodgers, has better offensive fire, a 360 turret and 9hp backed up by 2 greens is pretty forgiving too.

I know what you mean, but how old is Sabine officially? Rey appears to be about 18 to 20. And she has the plot on her side.

X-WING!

You're drunk jiron, go home.

Soontir fel. No other 35 points in the game can consistently do what it does.

get mulched by conner gets?

Rebels is, what, 3 years old?

Sabine is 16 at the start of Rebels.

So... let's just leave her be for the moment eh?

Fel players who set themselves up to be mulched need to practice more.

Other way around. If you don't mulch gel with nets, you need more practice

Dodging a net isn't easy considering you can dump it on fel before he gets to activate

Soontir Fel? More like Soontir gel! *mulches him via Conner Net* I apologize for my shameless idiocy

I'm pretty sure she is 19 now, so I would totally ask her out. also I'm only 17, so i'm probably closer in age than some of you. :P

Let's face it she's no rogue from the 90's X-Men cartoon, now those hips never lied.

Does he though?

Hmm... tricky one. After the update it was for a long time my lovely Maarek Stele with the x7 title.

But now? Holy s*** Fang Fighter! AMAAAZIIIING

Until it blanks out on you, which it will because green dice are gits.

It's so good it is NOT in the game because it would be OP. :P

Do we have a Godwin's law for Gunboats?

Sigh.

'What ever your opponent is beating you with.'
