I think it might be good for Vessery, so he has a TL and a focus for his shots, which makes him pretty nasty. Or is this just a bad idea?
Marksmanship?
If anything, Steele prefers it because pilot ability synergizes. It's 3 points for a slightly better offensive focus action which is why you don't see it often. It MIGHT pop up more as more methods to remove focus tokens arise though.
My friend made a nuisance of himself since I was using Janson, who can't hurt a marksmanship Vessery too much.
Well it does gives a focus for both shots of /D Ves, but the crit does nothing for his cannons. Don't think its worth it.
It's nice on Vessery, just make sure he has a TL buddy or two. If you have /D, you can use it on both attacks, but with x/7, I like the focus action for turtling up.
If it's going to be good on anyone, it should be good on a TIE /D Vessary. Or Corran.
I'm not sure it's the best EPT on either of them, but I like the idea of making the card work.

Well, it's still 3 points on a pilot and ship that get a lot from VI. I guess you can try it.
There's also the amusing option of taking Horton with EPT bot, Marksmanship, and TLT. It's relatively expensive, but if you want fully modded TLT shots every time, that'll do it.
Marksmanship is questionable at best. What is the best? These are the situations where using the Action for Marksmanship is generally better than a focus although it also has to make up its cost of 3 points:
1. Make multiple attacks.
2. Can make special use of kaboom result.
3. Marksman ship can avoid things that specifically prevent taking the Focus action or using Focus tokens on offense.
4. There is no chance you'll want the Focus token for defense or other purposes.
Remember in my area, he has 2 attacks, one of the two guns make use of the crit, and he often faces Janso. Not 4/4 but still...
To clarify yeah I have him in a /D

Possibly with an experimental interface on a ship you want to be able to TL and Focus-ish on the same turn (mainly ordnance based ships)
This is the next list I'm running.
Maarek Steele / TieD / Tractor Beam / Marksmanship
4x Black Squadron Ties / Crackshot
The tractor beam replaces Howlrunner to keep the swarms damage output high.

Which I'll admit actually makes Marksmanship worth considering.
At 3 points you've still got to compare it to Predator and perhaps a few other EPT. Just going for the crit effect I believe it's Calculation that would let you spend that Focus to turn one result into a kaboom and it only costs 1 point to include.
Youngster ...
Youngster ...
Who somewhat divides the points spent on Marksmanship up between more ships.
Youngster still doesn't do much to make it more effecient that just using the Focus Action especially when you're often looking at low PS TIE Fighters with 2 attack dice.
I like Marksmanship on Bossk. Not only do you get the crit result, but you can get extra damage to break shields or insure destruction.
Was good on Fat Han years ago. Now, you can spend 3 points in so many more efficient ways.
I have it on Youngster in a Tie swarm with Wampa.
Then vessery rolls naked greens and dies in three shots.
Marksmanship also does very little for ties not named wampa.
expose on youngster is more fun.

Yeah, it's not an awful upgrade on a Bossk build. K4/Dengar can get you rerolls, and 4-Lom/Zuckuss can push the damage through.

You will need a way to give vessery an extra action so he can target lock and Marksmanship. Experimental interface allows for it but it fills up the modification slot and gives stress and with the dial you will want to put Twin Ion Engine Mark 2 in that slot instead if you were going to spend any points on it.
Thing about marksmanship is that it is very expensive for what it does. It takes away the advantage of a focus token being able to use it for defense by modifying 1 result to a crit which unless shields are down won't mean much. Plus since there are two damage decks still active the crit is not too much of a concern.

I actually used this in a list, his wingmen where the Inquisitor and darth vader with that system that adds a hit to the roll if I don't use the tl. It worked quite well if I was looking at the raw dmg output. But to be honest, investing so many points into pure offence, made him pretty squishy on the defence. There where way too many times I had wished I had a real focus for a defence roll. I continue to fly the list but I dropped marksmanship and buffed vader a bit more. Worked much better after that.
I think it might be ok on mini-Dengar Quickdraw.
Instead of focusing on Rage+Baffle (Raffle!?) self-inflicted pain, take Marksmanship and FCS, then joust the ship you want out.
Whoever dares to shoot you, is getting a bucket of fully-modded dice.
