It is possibile to say Fenn and Verena are Area damage dealer, strong vs area group of imperials. They could be quite good against big target (like Royal Guards) but other Heroes (like Mak) could be the same Job better.

What do you think about these 2 in the same Group? Do they compete for the same role?

We were thinking about the following

Gideon

Diala

Fenn

Mak or Verana

But without Mak we are afraid to have less power damage against big enemies, and to be too weak as group in the first missions. (and the player would choose Verena has never seen her played in a campaign, so he would not play her at 100%. But he can play Mak very well).

On other other Side Fenn and Mak can compete for the same Tier 1 Upgrade (Tactical Display and E-11).

What do you think?

Fenn and Verena work well together. Fenn can move Verena into position for her to either gain her defensive benefits or to trigger her attack ability when Fenn kills the enemy. Diala can also move Verena around and Gideon can also move Verna around and masterstroke Fenn and then pull the strain off Verna from all the bonus attacks she's getting. Overall a very effective party, you might have a very frustrated Imperial player.

To be honest, Gideon, Diala, & Fenn are the strongest heroes in the game so you could have anyone in that 4th spot and it would still be a strong party.

I think Mak is the more balanced option, but Verena can work well too. Verena loves external sources of movement, and she may take some blast dmg but there will still be plenty of opportunities to work her magic.

Another option is to try an alternate build on Fenn, one that is more of a Short range brawler rather than aoe focused - using skills such as superior positioning and trench fighter (I would still get rebel elite tho).

As for weapons, Fenn isnt picky. I used deathhammer + spread barrel but he can use basically any ranged weapon. I wouldnt worry about the blast mod if you doing a superior positioning build. The Disruption Pistol+Spread barrel stands out as something that would be really good with this build, tho this is Verena's ultimate weapon if she is in party.

As for Tac Display - give it to whomever gains the most benefit. Tac display works best on weapons with more dmg surge abilities than you would normally be able to use (It is better on Mak's starter rather than Fenn's because Mak has 2 dmg surges). If Verena is in the group I would give to her, as she needs to be a bit of a loot hog to work properly.

I wouldnt stress group composition too much, like aoe helps but you wont lose a campaign solely because you lack it. My general rule is 1 support, 1 melee, 1 ranged, and the 4th can be anything. The flavour of ranged/melee doesnt matter so much unless you are really trying to min/max, which i dont think is nessesary.

Double support might not be great, but it can work, especially if you turn one of them into a hybrid character. I have a campaign I just started with both Gideon and Murne so I am going to be doing a hybrid build for Gideon focusing around Hammer & Anvil (still getting masterstroke but not all of the command synergy skills).

But when it comes to group composition, Verena tends to be an exception, because she, like no other hero, has other characters she doesn't like being in the same group with. The biggest of which is Jyn, since they want the same specific weapons, and to a lesser degree Gaarkan and Biv (as they clash for board positioning). As I alluded to earlier, the brawler Fenn also gravitates to the pistols (tho he would be just as happy with a pulse cannon), and she will likely clash with Vinto for the same reason as Jyn.
