N00b questions

By flightmaster101, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

We are about to start a campaign integrating our FaD books into our AoR and EotE stuff and before I make a new character I wanted to ask one question (maybe more as I read further):

If I buy a training lightsaber can I replace the training emitter with a real lightsaber crystal later in the campaign to make it a "real" lightsaber?

The book says a training saber is a handle with a training emitter, and a normal saber is a handle with at least a "lightsaber crystal". So it makes sense to me that I can just go on an adventure to fine an Ilum Crystal (as an example), and spend some time to craft it into my current handle. Is this what other players have done and other GM's have allowed?

Thanks!

Yes you can do this.

Yes you can.

As others have said, you can indeed swap out a training emitter for a proper lightsaber crystal once you acquire one.

The training lightsaber is pretty much just a basic lightsaber hilt with the training emitter pre-installed, so much like you could swap out the Ilum crystal that comes standard with a basic lightsaber, you can do the same with the training lightsaber.

I'm fairly certain this was intentional on the designer's part, so that those PCs who wanted to could start out with a lightsaber, enabling them to use talents like Parry and especially Reflect (which only works with a lightsaber), having a weapon that doesn't drastically overpower what the other PCs can generally afford, and yet can be upgraded at a future point without having to fully reinvest in a new weapon.

Awesome! Thanks all!
