Deathfire's wingmen

By Ronu, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So wanting to run Deathfire. Right now current kitting out has hi at roughly 27 points.

Deathfire: EM, Fletchette Torps, Ion PM, Prox Mines. LRS.

Some minor adjustments are possible. Meta is looking heavy with High Aces Scum, Rebel and Imp or larger based ships with zounds of hull.

If It's Imperial I have it and probably a few. My best ships are Intercepters, and Phantoms, Defenders are coming around.. What to do for wingmen.

I've looked at Fel and Brath using Adaptability with the X-7 and MK2's and still have a 2 pt bid. Could also switch to Marek Steele using VI.

I find bombers a bit squishy and people like to take them out before they can fire. I've never had one fire more than 2 missiles. With that in mind, it might be worth dropping the Flechettes to free up a few points. If you can deliver 2 IPMs and 2 mines then you are doing well.

you always need to look for the sweet spot between not enough munitions and too much munitions on these missile/torp boats. I find 1 shooting munition and a bomb or mine with EM is about the limit. Any more and he becomes target 1 for your enemy to force you into wasted points. If you are dropping bombs, DeathRain is the way to go. He is just better at it. Or Kwings with advanced slam, as Sabine makes them super effective. If you want to use Empire bombers only then I suggest slotting him in as another bomber and using his bomb as an as the opportunity arises type thing. Don't go in with the idea that he is dropping those bombs no matter what position he ends up after. Something like Deathfire with Scimitars that have EM and 1 bomb and 1 missile/torp, are very effective. Also I find that LRS just does not work as well as GC almost ever. Take GC and a couple of Tracers if you want focus and TL.

The "Deathfire" that I have most enjoyed was:

"Deathfire" (25)

-Long range scanners

-Extra Munitions

-Conner Net

-Flechette Torpedoes

Colonel Vessery loved having a long range scanner buddy. In that particular list Vessery was /d with an ion cannon and crack shot, alongside typical ptl Ryad. I loved the ion control. You could easily adapt that to an X7 Vessery with VI and a good target painter like Predator Vader if you want more ace. Thing is defenders don't really care about the pilot skill game, and that's actually very liberating. Good luck, hope some of this helps.
