Yes or No?
Can they compete?
Has the flotilla made a big enough impact on the game to get every player at least 4 ships on the field?

More alive than ever
Depends on the three ships i guess?
Well, most of the three ship fleets I'm used to seeing tend to be squadron heavy. The flotillas are right at home in such a fleet, so I've found myself replacing the third ship with two flotillas. Not really a non-competitive thing. Just more of an obvious evolution. I'm sure there are plenty of three ship builds that will work fine.

My fighter heavy tournament fleet did the same. I replaced
MC80, Yavaris + Tantive
with
MC80, Yavaris, BCC flotilla + Comms Net Flotilla.
I like the 4th activation especially when playing second player to help offset last-then-first activation attack runs by Demolisher or MC30s.
I attended a 10 player tournament last weekend and noticed most fleets had a flotilla and plenty had 2+. 4 ship fleets were most common.
If you have a decent initiative bid or a lot of fighters then I don't see 3 ship as being much of a problem. I mainly made the switch because of Bomber Command Centre rather than anything else but of course it does make Most Wanted even more vicious when the enemy are only getting an extra 18 points for your ship while you hunt down an important and decently expensive target.
Alive and well. Id venture to say the 2 ship fleet is dead.
I can only speak for the local meta as I don't play outside the store much.
2 ship is more rare but has a solid success rate. Mostly as 2xHomeOne or 2xISD with 130+ in squads.
3 and 4 ship are most fleets now and more are 3 than 4.
5+ sees the table occasionally. Usually only as a fun gimmick fleet.
Our local meta is very squadron heavy. In a meta where squads are poorly used/represented, you can get away with more ships.
Edited by Church14I am still flying 3 x VSD-I with success. I think it heavily depends on the meta and your own play style.
2 isd 1 interdictor... Sprinkle with squads and serve cold
Hm. Fleet compositions locally in the last few weeks:
2xHome One, full squads
2xLiberty, 1 Flotilla, 120ish in squads
3xGuppy, 70isb in squads
Home One, Nebulon, Flotilla/Cr90, full squads
Home One, 3xCr90, 7pish in squads
2xISD, 90ish in squads
ISD/Interdictor, GSD, Gozanti/Raider, 70ish squads
ISD/Interdictor, 2xGSD
ISD, 2xRaider, full squads
So mostly 3 ships builds. Rarely 4 now that I look at it. Sometimes 2.
I play 4 ships minimum, and I've played against 5 and 6 ship builds that also have fighters. Depends on your meta.

I'd love to see your list sometime, as I do love the VSD.
There is a video in the Battle Report subforum for the Canadian Nationals finals and one of the fleets was a 3 ship, ISD1, Demo, Gazonti + Rhymerball list. It lost to a 5 ship 2 VSD 3 Gazonti Rhymerball but it getting to the top table shows 3 ship lists are not dead if played right. i do think 4 ships will be the most common.
The ship fleets are alive and well
Even two ship fleets are viable. I'm pretty sure two of them faced off in the final of the US Nationals.

Man I'm still tickled that a couple two ship fleets went toe to toe at nationals, and one was lead by ozzel.
I do enjoy that we have completely different takes depending in where we play. Says a lot of good about the health of the game that the defining meta is player dependant more than on a single upgrade/ship.
I personally have found 5+ ship fleets to be a huge liability and 4 ships fleets not much better. Yet the point of this thread is people wondering if the exact opposite is true. Good news for the game.

That was without wave 3/4 available though.
We don't see 2 ship builds locally. 3-4 ships is common.

Here you go. It's built around finding and delivering crits :-)

No idea why it would be.
Hell, I bet we'd see one ship builds now and then if there was a way to make a complete list with just one ship.
only in this micro battle game are 3 ships called a "fleet" ![]()

Hell you might call it a "small" "a very small action force." ![]()
We've been through this.
"Fleet" is a perfectly legal definition for what we run here in this game, based on the very meaning of the word.
However, "Armada" implies an even larger group of ships. ![]()
Don't forget that the the winner of Gencon this year had only two ships.
I picked up a 3rd ISD and lemme tell ya - running three ISD's with Motti is quite strong indeed. You can even give them some upgrades if they aren't all ISD2's.
