I wasn't going to repaint...

...but the stock paintjobs on my models are rubbish. I don't know if they were a Friday job but I couldn't leave them as they were.

Not that I'm doing anything flashy or very detailed with them - just a repaint, essentially. Stock TIE on the right, my version on the left.

Yep. I'm tempted to try to repaint, too...

The "red core" TIE/ln paint job is AWFUL, just compared to the TIE expansion...

The idea of having to barnish them is what is pulling me off right now...

That and the lack of extra free time due to babies and stuff... :P

I think it's a good job, as i like not very flashy repaints, but i would be tempted to put some markings on them...

I know the feeling, our daughter is approaching 4 months :D

I'm still considering markings. Maybe an insignia on the outer panels, and I'm planning to keep track of and apply kill markings to each ship as they shoot things in games.

Guessing from the cardboard box they're sitting on, you purchased them online? You obviously wouldn't have chosen a poor factory paint job in person.

Here are a couple of my TIE repaints. I didn't want to do anything too crazy to them, but be able to distinguish them from another person's TIEs.

The topmost TIE is all factory paint except for the marking on the wing of course. It leaves something to be desired, but it works for now. The other two ties just have a white band on their port side.

The bottom right's cockpit looks half melted in the pic (bad lighting?) but IRL it's okay. Frankly, the paint job I gave them looks kinda muddy after not having looked at them for about a month. Going to have to go back for touch-ups. The Interceptor looks quite nice in person, but the apparently poor lighting here at work (don't judge!) make it look too dark.

All the best,

Barry um... FM

That's actually my airbrush spraying box, to stop overspray - it just made a good surface to put the TIEs on to take a photo :) and yes, they were an online purchase.

Love the TIE with the chevron on its solar panel. I was thinking of something similar, albeit smaller.

What paints did you use to repaint your TIEs?

What paints did you use to repaint your TIEs?

Citadel paints as follows:

Mechanicus Standard Grey all over, except the panels

Wash of Nuln Oil on the grey areas

Drybrush of Celestra Grey on the grey areas

Abaddon Black for the panels.

I didn't strip or re-prime the model.

Army forces rarely allow extensive personalization on planes/ships, with very rare exceptions...

Though, pilots who live long enough are very special individuals and prefer to mark their planes/ships (sometimes for psychological factor)

That's why i thought markings are the best way to customize a ship without losing its "military discipline"...

The problem is that some markings (like pinups in WWII american bombers) require an almost imposible effort to paint.

So that will be my aproach to repaints.

That's my thoughts as well. Obviously the Imperials would not stray to far from their 'standard' paint schemes, aside from any camouflage schemes. Squadron markings and veterans/elites would be an exception. Along with the Emperors Guard. The only 'wild card' would be any bounty hunters that hold a contract with the Imps.

The Rebellion on the other hand would be more 'loose & fast' with their colour/paint schemes. Seeing that their military is more ad-hock, they're just happy to have fighters in the first place. Give them some colour to make various squadrons distinct from each other and away you go. They'd be more forgiving with personalisation of the ships. I can even see them allowing kill markings on the sides of the fighters as a way of boosting morale. You'd probably find that sometimes they wouldn't have time to slap on a coat of paint before needing the fighter in question to head into combat, maybe wearing the colours of the previous owners!

Scum, you fly what you bring. ;)

I settled on a basic squadron marking. I actually use the same red & white chevron for my own personal marking in other game systems :)
