This is not so much a report as an observation from a recent match, wherein I realized that BMST on Assaj can be the difference between a slow, painful loss and victory. I had what appears to be a fairly standard Assaj loadout: PTL + K4. I went engine over Gyro T, and loaded up with rigged cargo and BMST.
In RD 2 of the tournament I was facing Imp. aces and it came down to OL and Assaj. My opponent did a great job of keeping OL back, I could've forced some bad shots so instead I took the targets of opportunity and ended up with the end game he wanted.
This is where Assaj's ability plus BMST really shined. I was repeatedly able to throw on the stress, then dive into range the following round to hack and slice at the hull. Inability to mod attack dice didn't matter bc I was chipping away. Additionally, the stress I was throwing down also locked down the dial.
My takeaway, BMST is pretty good on Assaj. I questioned whether it was a waste bc of the limitations of PTL w/the card and how it doesn't work with engine, but ultimately it proved vital to beating OL and I could think of a number of similar end game scenarios. My opponent prob. should've disengaged then tried to keep at R3, and that may have been a different story, but in this match I was able to win bc of the combo.
Rigged cargo, on the other hand, was a lot less impressive. I unloaded it once the entire tournament. I think I'd probably like to try to drop the engine and add feedback, the ability to hack 1 and feedback a second is very tempting, and the gyro gives 2 free actions for a green move i'm going to likely make anyway (coupled with K4).
Anyway, just an observation, and probably not very inspired at that. I'm sure people are aware of how good BMST is, particularly on a ship w/an auto-stress mechanic, but it was a nice feeling knowing that I was in an end game situation that wasn't an automatic loss.
