It's a year away, time for a little teaser. A mechanic? An art preview? Some lore?
Anything...
mouth watering, drooling first time GenCon going L5R fan here. =)

We did get the Atlas of Rokugan released.
We're probably not going to get anything specific to the new game until GAMA, and only that because it'll be hard to keep anything FFG talks about there quiet.
Actual previews? Probably not until May-ish.

Again, previews will probably start roughly 2-3 months before GenCon next year, depending on how production is coming along. So, May, as BD said, isn't a bad guess, although I'm still going June just because that's a new quarter.
Until then, there will be nothing. Get used to FFG.

The new Atlas of Rokugan post ( The World Is at Your Fingertips ) has two pieces of art I haven't seen before.
Esteemed Palace of the Crane
Kyuden Spider

Both probably by Chris Ostrowski. And he was so sad he'll never see his Onyx Strongholds art in public.
oy. this thread again. here ya go: https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/229210-hype/ save everyone having to rehash all the reasons not to get your hopes up for a while
I LIKE the Kyuden Spider! I dont know if that is IN the atlas or if its a new image they are releasing, because if it is that is a good sign that Spider is still in, and the timeline is at least samurai edition at the earliest.
Heres to hoping as I save up for some Atlas fun!

You realize that the Atlas of Rokugan was AEG's last L5R product and would of course include Spider, but is not a guarantee of what FFG plans to do with the IP, right?

Well, I don't HAVE the atlas so I was more saying that I don't know if that image of Kyuden Spider was an inclusion IN the atlas and not a new piece of art. If its in the Atlas then your right, its AEG stuff and is changeable, if its a new piece of art never before seen however... now shown less then a year to the game's release, then there are different implications there...
But I assume its an image IN the atlas already, I look forward to getting to see the maps, even to this day I still have no idea what the colonies actually look like geographically.
i never, NEVER, got AEG's excuse for not printing good maps. "oh, the emperor wouldn't let good maps be made, so they couldn't be used in war against him" or whatever it was. yes, because thats a valid reason to deny people a helpful gaming tool that is COMPLETELY standard across virtually every game and fictional property known to man.
I hope they can produce a lot of early content for the game. Not just release with a core, but an expansion at the same time. I feel a good product selection from early on would strengthen the games sales and would give us more to play with. I also hope they release a core with all 9 clans - I hate having to wait for deluxe expansions xD

Do we honestly think that every clan didn't have some pretty good maps hidden in secret, even if they were officially outlawed?

The Arkham Horror card game is still "On the Boat", and they've already announced an expansion; and the Lord of the Rings card game has already teased the first few expansions of the next arc, when the current arc isn't even complete yet. I think they probably won't announce things too far in advance, but once the floodgates open we'll be inundated!
I just looked in my copy of "The Atlas of Rokugan" and neither the Esteemed Palace of the Crane or Kyuden Spider are in there so either it is AEG allowing a little extra in the digital download or FFG giving a little license to the Artists to allow their work to keep us salivating. Beautiful artwork BTW.
If my memory serves me well, those artworks were to be used of Onyx Strongholds.

Yes. Chris painted all B sides of Onyx Strongholds (like in 20F) and ther're two of them.
It's old art from CCG (House of Loose Silk). And yes, it's Chris work like those two above in this topic.

I really like this picture a lot, because it kinda looks like there are skyscrapers in the background.
It has a Rokugan2000 feeling to it.

The later art contracts, to the best of my knowledge, allowed AEG to use any commissioned piece in things beyond just the card they were for. They could do this without giving any notice to the artists. So if those contracts moved to FFG then they can use any works from the cancelled Obsidian Edition as they want. They used an image from Conceptopolis for their teaser banner at GenCon and the owner of Conceptopolis had no idea they did.
I just want to know if it will be 3-4 player compatible.
Local scene will probably not jump in if it is a 2 player game...
I'm sure FFG will drown us in previews once they're ready. Literally. I'd even suspect some art books full of wonderful, new art in the future

Yes to this. They did it with Android Netrunner and they are doing it again for Arkham Horror. It's not like they don't already own over 25 years of lore and art of a fully developed world. Probably they even could do that *before* launching the game!

Now that we are talking art:
In Star Wars I usually find lots of images that are both in the RPG and in the cards and they are ***** beautiful*. I think we can expect the same from L5R.
*They even created a new card based on a character from one of the beginner boxes.
