What's best to run, PC or Android based. Help?

Is it updated with the most recent tournament updates?

Sure is!

I seem to get a few oddities when using it. Nothing un-solvable with a little thought but it seems to really bug the local OCD moaners. At a couple of tournies it has matched people who have already played (easy fix) and once had the cheek to put the top player on table 2. Imagine the horror!!!! Things like this don't bother me as you can simply call out a different table and not blindly follow the machine into Judgement Day but a few of the locals have been very bitchy about it.

Just to be clear; that's not a dig. I love the software. Just wondering if this is common or i have a buggy version/laptop.

First question I always ask: What version are you running?

1. "It matched people who have already played" Did it give a warning and/or show "DUPLICATE" next to the game? The software follows the rule that it will try to resolve duplicates using the point group above and below the affected group. If that doesn't resolve the issue it leaves it up to the TO. I do have an exhaustive method that can do it, but it can end up with some really wacky pairings so I don't have it fully implemented. If you're not receiving any notification or indication that it is a duplicate and its only being realized when the players go to check who they're playing then that's a problem. In that case, send me you save file and I'll figure it out.

2. "Once had to cheek(sic) to put the top player on table 2" The current pairing system is random within your point group. The top player will not always be at the top table, though as you get further into your event, the higher players should be at the higher tables. If there is an odd grouping or too many duplicate matches, a player may get paired down and thus further from the top tables. Check it out and see if that's whats happening. If it looks like something other than that, send me the save file.

Golden Rule: If it doesn't look quite right, send your save file and instructions of how to duplicate the problem to the developer. It's the only way things get better. I like fixing my problems, feel free to complain.

Thanks for the swift response.

I'd have to check which version it is. It's on my laptop at home right now :)

1. It has warned of duplicate matches and I've not had an issue with it myself. It's easy enough to switch players around but the TO who I lent my laptop too at our last local club tournament made a big deal out of it and publicly announced "I'm making my own spreadsheet next time" which seems an over reaction and more work than necessary IMHO.

2. I'm pretty sure it was due to the same players being at the top end of the table and thus it was attempting to pair them without duplicates. The table numbers were paper and could have easily just been moved to save someone the sheer indignation of being on table 2 or the TO could have called that pairing out as table 1 and switched with table 2. This, again, seemed a bit too much like hard work for said TO and caused grumbles.

To me personally; these are non-issues that are easily solvable. In all honesty; I was kind of irked I'd lent my stuff out to do a favour and got moaned at about it. However I wasn't sure if this was buggy-ness (as for some reason my save files are always corrupt) or standard procedure. Your explanations make me think it's not buggy and just requires a slight human touch (who'd a thunk it?). I've used it for running 2 store champs and various smaller tournies myself with no issue. I simply moved players about to avoid the one duplicate it gave me fair warning of and it saved me a lot of headaches

Out of interest; is there anything in the FFG tournament rules (couldn't see this last time I checked) or any rule about Swiss parings in general that says the top player(s) should always be on the top table/pitch/court etc.?

The FFG rules on pairings are that you are paired against people in your same point group. If there's an odd number then someone gets paired down. All pairings are random in the point group so there is no guarantee you will be in the first or last pairing of your group.

They do not dictate table numbers. Some TOs like to do random tables so relative ranking is ambiguous or to keep table locations fair (for example, I was at a regionals where they had to have some players in another room, the randomized to prevent just the lower players from ending up there. Other TOs like to keep it in order so they can pay more attention to the higher tables at the same time. Nothing against the players who aren't at the top, it's just that the competition is a little more intense for those who still have a shot at the #1 spot.

You're save files are always corrupt? That doesn't sound good. Send me a corrupt one some time and I'll check it out. They should never be corrupt unless you make a version jump that implements a new thing that your save file doesn't have or if someone manually modified the file and screwed it up.
