Psychic Blade and Templar Calix question

By Khalual, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

So I'm makeing my first Psyker character and thinking about going down the Templar Calix tree, a couple of questions...

1) What Disciplines mesh well? I was thinking either Biomancy for the healing, Divination for the precog strike/dodge, or TK for psychic blade.

2) With psychic blade do you get the advantage of melee talents?

"Once manifested, treat the Psychic Blade as a sword wielded by the Psyker"

There are a few exceptions after that, but in every other way the Blade is a sword wielded by the Psyker. Thus melee talents do indeed work in tandem with it.

If you're looking for pure-combat stylings, then Biomancy and Telekinesis are perhaps the most useful. Don't forget that Seal Wounds is the only decent healing method in the **** game. My recommendation however is that, since you're already going to be a Templar Calix, make good use of all those combat-oriented advances that you get and try to vary your Psychic powers up a bit so that you're useful in more than a fight... Telepathy has some phenomenally useful and interesting powers that can expand your options to the limits of inventiveness. Divination also has some neat abilities that can make you more than a one-trick pony. Don't forget, it's a roleplaying game primarily.

biomancy would be my choice...

you get seal wounds, regeneration, have hammerhands if you need to do massive damage, and shape flesh which is **** good to do many things... fly somewhere, create a tentacle with an eye on it to spy around corners, have extra arms for improved grappling, run faster, lift more, if you can go blob you should even be able to go through the tiniest creek in a wall...

you can easily mix them of course only lacking discipline mastery in the end which is a great bonus but seriously restricting

My Psyker is a Templar Calixis, Psy rating 4, Bio-mancer.

I am planning to pick up telekinetics before long. Here's something you may need to be aware of if you go down the same road I did.

While you can use all the skills and talents from the Templars, to use a talent such as two-weapon wielder melee, you will still need the appropriate WS at the necessary number, 35 in this case, to use it, even if you use your Psy Blade, which works off of WP instead of WS. This makes a lot of sense when you stop to think about it. As you would be taking long hours to actually learn the two-weapon wielder talent, you wouldn't want to be actively manifesting powers for that time to learn it.

Also, they have a very nice Force sword available in the Inquisitor's handbook, if you don't want to spend the extra experience to pick up Psy Blade or Hammerhand. With it, you can channel your psyker ability through it, making that weapon a force to be reckoned with, and not have the drawbacks of having to manifest a power to get one of the other abilities up. Having my 'Call Item' minor ability tied to my Force sword, is sooo useful.

My Psyker is a Mistress Templar Calix. When I take my ascension kit I am going Crusader (Yes, my GM has already approved the package).

I went Bio-mancy. I plan on getting Telekinetics when I take Psy 5.

Yes, all your melee abilities will work with a Psychic Blade. But be sure to read the errata on it. Also, in the Inquisitor's Handbook, p. 187 you will find a force weapon entry, which may suit your needs until you take either Hammerhands (Bio) or Psychic Blade (Tele).
