Armada After Action Data Collection Project

By WWPDSteven, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi guys, after reading the Regionals data collection thread yesterday, I decided I wanted to create a form to enable players to submit the results of their games. I tried to be as granular as possible. The list section is by far the most tedious, so I made it unstructured free-text data and we'll do some keyword analysis on it later to get discrete information out of that field.

Without further ado, the link is: https://goo.gl/forms/2mO44y5nIzqnmkvJ2

The goal of this is simply to be able to look at perceived trends and allow some analysis on the data to test hypotheses. The data will not be reliable until we have a sufficient number of responses so- get to work! Help me spread the word! And thank you for participating :)

Disclaimer:

I do NOT see this replacing Shmitty's excellent efforts. In fact, I hope it can only enrich what he does. His data is much more reliable (reported by TOs) and targeted on tournament results (which makes it more complete). I am allowing all games to be submitted (casual through Worlds level) and this data is at the game level rather than the tournament level. I will be able to filter out "casual" vs "competetive" games, but I will not have as robust of a dataset as Shmitty.

CHANGELOG:

v1.01- Added "League" and "Campaign" play to the game type options

Nice, I'll strive to get each one of my games on here, the more you put in, the more you get out.

Steve are you looking for just any old games info here? Just tournaments?

You choose what your game was when you submit.

Yeah, it looks like you can select any level from just a casual game to a Worlds game. Pretty cool deal, I plan on throwing in a game I'm playing tonight.

Request to add "Custom Game" for when we decide to not play an objective but rather play a custom-made scenario - assuming you want the data at that point.

This is such a great idea. Gotta spread the word on this.

Hey FoaS, I think given the nature of the data analysis, having custom scenarios will have too many variables. We need a level playing field (which the objectives provide) to have meaningful data to analyze.

Potentially true, except that it will tell you how often people play custom scenarios, but its worth an ask.

Someone message to get this stickied. In fact, many people message

Submitted my last game. Will continue to do so.

I think this it's a great idea. That said, I can't even remember to take pictures every round, how am I going to remember to do this?

Where possible, I'm sure the League-Boss is going to do a lot of it :D

Just logged a close one! MoV was 10 points.

Thanks everyone who has logged games so far!

Minor change- I have added "Campaign" and "League" games to the list of game types.

As Cal said, I am not hugely interested in "non standard" games right now (non-normative points, custom scenarios, or custom ships)- I think it introduces a bit too much variance. I may reconsider down the road :)

totes fair, dude. from here on out i will log any game i play.

Awesome, thank you! Help spread the word!

This is a great idea. Thanks for putting it together.

Just put my first game in.

Feedback: For league games, I don't know what my position is, nor my opponents.

No worries- for a league it's probably safe to leave that info out I reckon, especially since lists can fluctuate from game to game.

Thank you for participating so far everyone!

Should we include objectives in our lists when submitting?

Good question! It's definitely not necessary, but it's fairly easy to ignore.

I will say- PLEASE copy and paste the whole list in, not just a URL to a list... you know who you are (though thank you so much for putting 5 games in!)

Getting a good number of responses so far!

When you do an article, will you release the percentage of rebs vs imps? I fear that the swing is people are playing rebels more now, but that might just be our local area.

Most def! It'll get more granular than that too, but I'm definitely interested in that also.

If any of you got games in over the weekend- don't forget to log them!
