Ghost, Zeb, Special Arc... hmmm

By ObiOneToo, in X-Wing Rules Questions

This incident came up at a tournament recently.

Lothal Rebel with ZEB crew, no shuttle, no ordinance.

Opponent had overlapped in the rear facing special firing arc. The opponent didn't think they would get to shoot. The player controlling the Lothal Rebel believed his opponent would still get a shot and called a TO over to verify this.

The first TO did not think the opponent could shoot saying that because there was no shuttle the arc wasn't valid, and called another TO over to verify. The second TO believed that the special arc still counted and the opponent should be able to shoot. Both players looked at each other and thought WTF.

The Lothal player insisted his opponent shoot, because he believed that to be the correct interpretation. He promptly lost his ship in the exchange.

Thoughts?

Lothal player is correct

The Arc counts for Zeb's ability. Really sucks if you don't have shuttle docked (5 dice out the backside is good fun) and turrets still count for Zeb firing in either front or rear arc to ships touching..

Yep.

Zeb crew only cares about it being an active arc - so Auxiliary Arcs, Special Arcs and Mobile Arcs all trigger that ability, even if you can't currently shoot out of them for whatever reason.

Would the same apply to Ketsu Onyo crew on a Shadow Caster? I was reading it as "firing arc" meaning the actual printed arc and not including the mobile arc, since the pilot version goes out of its way to emphasize both of them.

Be careful on that. Zeb and AT specifically call out PRINTED firing arcs. The mobile firing arc is not printed.

They don't. They say 'arc'. THe mobile arc also counts for that. That's why I included the word 'active' there. THe mobile arc invalidates ATs and counts for Zeb and so on.

If Ketsu crew were meant to apply to the primary arc and not to the mobile arc, the card text would read "one enemy ship inside your primary firing arc...". She works with all kinds of arcs too.

Zeb doesnt specify what kind of firing arc, so any firing arc triggers it. The rear arc of the ghost isnt "inactive" when the phantom isnt docked, its a special arc that fires torpedos but nothing else without the phantom.

Any upgrade/ability that specifies "firing arc" works on primary, auxiliary, special, and mobile arcs. Which is why the Fangs are such hard counters to the ghost, as all their "staring down the barrels of your opponents guns" abilities proc off non-primary arcs for some reason, and the ghost cant do anything about it.

However, if he has autoblasters, it triggers then as well. Only time a turret doesnt trigger Zeb is if the target is bumping your sides, thus out of arc.

That would have come in incredibly handy. I just assumed the opposite -- unless it specified mobile, it meant primary.
