Ion Defenders

Flechette is always useful since you can stress ships and it deals dmg.

Tractor Beam doesn't work as well on big ships (0 agility doesn't care the least).

I know the shenanigans with tractor is awesome, but I personally prefer a sure thing if you apply it to a TIE/D.

There are 2 ships that have 0 Agility off the top of my head... I think I would rather take my chances running into a Decimator or a VCX and have the Tractor Beam be useless against them, than not have the Tractor Beam and it be awesome against so many more ships. Flechette only works if you don't have a stress, so does not work against Dengaroo, PTL aces etc etc etc. Reduces things like the Falcon to 0 Agi, making C3=P0 useless. The TB has it in spades over the Flechette.

Alright, alright you got me! ;-)
Then what? Keep 1 point for a weak initiative bid, or put VI on a Countess Ryad to get PS 7 on both? ;)

VI on Ryad probably. PS7 isn't a PS at which you need a bid usually.

My whole point was actually to get Omega Leader on board instead of the tie-shuttle! ;)

You lose 1 PS, which sucks admittedly, but you arent forced to fly in formation, Omega Leader helps vessery a ton, and each ship can fly independent of each-other.

With Omega Leader you split your opponent's attention between the scary Vessery and the scary end game god that is Omega Leader.
If you throw in Ryad as his co-pilot you have a defender that is harder to predict in the end-game.

Something like this?
Shoot first with omega, cuz, PS.
Shoot with Vessery with rerolls, hope for tractor, reposition if needed.
Shoot with Ryad and get the ion in on a -1 agility ship.

This punishes prioritization as well. You want to get rid of Ion first (I would at any rate), but that leaves Vessery alive.
If Vessery dies first, you still have Ion Cannon, instead of just a tractor beam, which is less important the longer the game drags out, compared to ion.

Countess Ryad (34)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Ion Cannon (3)
TIE/D (0)
Colonel Vessery (35)
Adaptability (0)
Tractor Beam (1)
TIE/D (0)
"Omega Leader" (21)
Juke (2)
Comm Relay (3)

I'd play it.

I looked at Omega, but a big part of flying a squad for me is having interest in it. He doesn't interest me.

The Bomber on the other hand is a ship I've barely used. Nice to make use of a model I've used so little.

DD: the augmentation as I dubbed it works very well.

Rexler Brath — TIE Defender 37

Push the Limit 3

Ion Cannon 3

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II 1

TIE/D 0

Ship Total: 44

Colonel Vessery — TIE Defender 35

Veteran Instincts 1

Tractor Beam 1

TIE/D 0

Ship Total: 37

Scimitar Squadron Pilot — TIE Bomber 16

Fleet Officer 3

TIE Shuttle 0

Ship Total: 19

So well in fact I've been banned from using it locally.

Isn't Rex a higher PS? You should have TB on him, so that Vess can gain benefit from the lower agility effects of the TB target.

Rexler is an 8 and VI Vessery is an 8.

or load up deathfire with some connor nets. that's always fun.

Defenders with the D title need guaranteed rerolls or dice manipulation on offence or they will succumb to the luck of the dice. Vessery is a great choice only if at least one other ship in your fleet will constantly take TLs (like V1 TAPs). A simple (but costly) solution could be Predator for the D title Defenders. The TIE shuttle with Fleet Officer also is a solution.

I cannot stress how important it is that D title Defenders hit every round. They will not have the evade token the x7 title gives them, and therefor will not last as long in prolonged dogfights. Green dice are not to be trusted and if your only action (TL or Focus) is going to offense, that leaves you with naked green dice (whom is a harsh mistress indeed) on defense.

Had a quick game against Fenn Rau, the PS7 Fang, and two Zs.

I did hit him hard but Fenn with Fearlessness hit Vess with a 5-hit torpedo. It was mental.

Anyway, the Bomber was handy and even got a couple of shots off. Got a bit mixed up between Vess and Rex a couple of times. Completely forgot to use PTL on Rex.

To be fair the whole game was a bit rushed but it was good to get my eye in a little before using it in a league game on Thursday.

Interesting build. Gotta try it.

I suggest to name it Two Guys, One Scimitar.

Totes didn't shoot him when he broke into my study trying to steal my secrets.

Suprised Biophysical hasn't chimed in yet, but since he hasn't, here's some required reading for aspiring Tie/D players.

I ran the list as well and thought it was pretty strong.

Thanks dude! That was an extremely useful thread.

I'm not completely sold on the list I was running after one game (harsh to judge I know). I might give this a go. :)

I'll be giving Biophyscal's list a try tonight. Looking forward to it. Hard hitting Defenders!!!
