A Wild Ackbar Approaches!

Interesting concept, but are you able to protect your Admiral?

As 2nd player, how do you cope with an aggressive 1st player that brings fast, powerful ships, like the Liberty, ISD - or MC30/Demolisher?

I'm sure you have a plan, but Ackbar on a plain CR90 is very, very vulnerable.

I applaud the attempt to bring Ackbar into this squadron crazy meta. He's come a long way from his "OP" days and I'm not sure how well he'll do in a squadron heavy list, but it's definitely worth a shot. I really don't like CR90s in an Ackbar fleet anymore. Before they were kind of OK, but there is now a commander that can render that side arc useless for the entire game. If it had Jaina's Light, that would be a different story. I'm also not a big fan of the Sensor Team/Quadlasers combo. Seems unnecessarily expensive. If you drop those, you can upgrade the CR90 to another AFII with ECMs and still gain another 2 points for your bid (or another upgrade).

Also, JJ recently converted me to using TRCs on AFIIs over ECMs. I'm rather enjoying it. Not saying it's for everyone, but something to consider with all those red dice being thrown around.

Cool, thanks for the feedback, guys. I feel you on the CR90, its more about point mitigation more than anything, so if I lose an AFMKII it's not like welp, there goes 135 points. Just played a game with it, and while the quad/sensor combo was fun, I feel it's too many points and damage isn't reliable enough.. I like your TRC idea. I personally am not a huge fan of playing Ackbar, but wanted to give something new a try.

Green Knight, you're right about it being rough going 2nd. Demolisher devoured an AFMKII right off jumpstreet. I narrowly lost the game by 10 points, but I feel like Ackbar hasn't gained much with the new ships, which is fine, just kind of what my impression is.

If you're worried about the points piƱata of having Ackbar on a third AFII, try moving him over to Bright Hope. That thing is deceptively tough. It also adds a tough choice for your opponent: either risk shooting at something with a scatter, an evade, and damage mitigation, or let Ackbar continue to provide his ability. If the flotilla and an AFII are both in range, that's a tough choice to make. It helps that Bright Hope is practically immune to some of the threats to your other ships. Single die bombers will rarely cause damage unless they can manage to get behind you. Demolisher, and Gladiators in general, usually just cry looking at that scatter token. The only way they can kill you is a 1 in 8 chance on those front arc red dice. If they have an intel officer to force the scatter to be discarded, they can get the kill in two shots, but that's still two shots not going at your other ships.

I hear you on Bight Hope, it is pretty tough, but my problem there is Toryn Farr likes to be in the thick of it, and if Ackbar was with her I fear that flotilla would be prioritized for targeting and get focused down. I prefer Quantum Storm as a commander chariot, as it makes it much easier to dodge arcs and medium range. But, it's worth a shot, I can try it out and see how it goes.
