...No, no absolutely not Joe.

This does kind of have to stop man. I've no real ire for you but... Why are your posts always so loud and quite frankly obnoxious..? Cant'cha just, y'know...

Chill?

Dammit why is that when I get mad people go crazy?

:o

Ponder... yet all kinds of mad peeps post all of the time here, and that is just business as usual.

in now way trying to add fuel to the fire or vindictive, but this is from the Reddit thread by PGS.

While PGS is a huge a-hole, and he is way to militant, he actually isn't entirely wrong in that thread. Fly Casual doesn't mean bend the rules.

As always with PGS, I think the message was overshadowed by the messenger.

Joe, I want to make it clear that I don't hate you. But my goodness do I hate your posts that are pointless and add nothing to this forum whatsoever.

Please, if you are going to post, post something coherent that is discussing your plastic spaceships, the interactions paper cards have with them, or their existence together with cardboard maneuver templates and range rulers.

Please. :(

Yeah but you can't put a tiger in the sheep herd and expect it to work just fine.

Yeah I updated the first post to make the intent of the topic clearer... maybe it is now?

Amen.

Never mattered how much sense he made. There were times I genuinely agreed with him. But he is so painfully brash that until he straightens out his social skills (even in an online setting, which is really saying something), the sense he made meant nothing. Doesn't matter if your ice cream is good if it's sprinkled with chips of dog poop.

Do we know if there is anything keeping a banned user from just creating a new account? It would be hilarious if he did because his tone would give him away 10 posts in.

Yup, I in no way condone PGS' attitude, or the way he expresses it, but the people in the reddit thread are basically trying to say you're creating NPE if you don't bend the rules a bit. What they're saying is almost as bad as PGS himself.

Ya that works. Now just work on the titles being clear about intent and I'll have no issues.

agreed but again, PSG could post about how evil Hitler was and it would still make most users wanted to argue with him.

Yup, but I think both sides were unnecessarily toxic.

I really liked the article. One of the best, actually. Maybe a surprise release on Force Friday. Maybe not, but good article. Those concepts have already made me a better pilot.

It also goes back to my earlier comment about "more people, more friction, more bad attitudes"

I just read the article that this post refers to and I don't understand why everyone here is jumping on JBR7. True, this post has little to do with the article but surely doesn't warrant all the vitriol being spewed. Full moon maybe? Nimoy's singing?

Even veteran's benefit from the refresher course on blocking that PH put up. Yes, the picture of the Scyk was a teaser that we thought promised something we wanted and we went unfulfilled yet again. JBR7's little tongue-in-cheek post hit some kind of nerve and we get 4 pages of meanness. Huh? This response is something I'd expect from 14 yos but our mean age is somewhere in the 30+ range. We need to put our hobby and attitudes in balance.

I'm actually sorry to hear PGS got banned. Yes he could be a rectal orifice at times and some of his posts had the strident tones of a cat being pulled backwards through a keyhole, but a lot of what he said was spot on. It was just the way he presented it.

I don't know if this attitude is present in tourneys or not but if it is, I'll stick with beer and pretzel crowd, fly casual and have fun.

PGS was if nothing honest, brutally so true but I respect honesty even if I don't agree on his opinion.

the strident tones of a cat being pulled backwards through a keyhole

I will treasure this auditory concept forever.

Sorry Joe. We're going to hijack this thread to make it a memorial to PGS now. Didn't really know him. I did learn a few things from him, and he largely annoyed the heck out of me, but yeah...

Rest peacefully PGS. May a swarm of TIE fighters escort your dreams...

I'm a bit pissed that Goomba's been banned, personally.

Yeah, he was a misanthropic grouch, but he was a big part of this forum's community. He put the time in to comment a lot and loves the game.

The stuff that was getting slung at him on that reddit thread was properly toxic, and he never rose to their level once...

People screaming at you that you suck as a person, are a failure, no one likes you, that you don't deserve a job, that you're mentally unwell... that stuff is sooooo much worse than anything Goomba ever said in his 3000 odd posts here. But as it is the judgememnt of the crowd, it just slides on by.

I didn't often agree with him, but he was part of the furniture around here. (You know, that old sofa that smells of cat.)

You're right. I swung too hard on my first post.

But in the 15 years that I've been gaming, I've found that more often than not, casual gamers are initiating conflict. A competitive gamer makes a declaration about the quality of whatever and casual gamers usually chime in a pretty condescending way. Whereas if you look at threads that are clearly for casual players like fan cards, scum epic, etc., competitive gamers don't say a word. They avoid the thread.

JBR7 is a well-recognized user here, and instead of just being an advocate for casual play that he could and should be (and sometimes is), he decides to attack Paul for writing an article too rudimentary. He could easily be part of the solution but often chooses to be part of the problem.

Characters like JBR7, I think, have a place in these forums. They provide a little "color commentary" if you will. I'd rather have this injected than "it's going to die to Palp aces" anytime someone new brings up a rebel build.

I agree with your comments about casual players, to a point. Some casual players don't realise the bad habits they pick up during friendly games. Have 4 ships with the same PS? Move first and then take actions. No problem. But it is a problem. It violates the rules. Forgot an action but the game state hasn't changed? Ask your OP because it's no big deal, right? Wrong it can be a big deal. I approach it, casual play, a little differently. Play by the rules to the best of your ability, you decide if you want to cut the other player slack because he forgot something and NEVER EXPECT that courtesy in return. This way you have established good playing habits for tournaments and won't necessarily tick off your OP in casual games.

While casual players often do 'throw the first punch' there's no shortage of competitive players that either stoke the argument outright or come off as condescending boobs to the new guy with the stock one liner "it's going to die Palp aces and torpedo scouts". No explanation just a decree everyone should accept. Yes, explaining the same thing to 20 different FNGs multiple times a day is taxing and does work on your nerves but if it bothers you that much, let someone else handle the reply. These veterans that have been playing X-Wing since inception should be grateful for the opportunity to spread their knowledge around. It's the casual players that keep this game being reprinted. If they thought about it they might realise they could be grooming the next Nathan Eide or Paul Heaver.

Ok, done. Just to be clear, the "you" above was the editorial you and not You specifically.

No Probs Brah... I think I made my point, and it was a cry-baby thing to begin with... so talk about other stuff.

:D

I get you... but you know what Brah I did that for a long time and I am done trying to be a daddy here.

;)

I agree with JBR7. We are NOT the same person. :)
