Paul Heaver Article up

By dewbie420, in X-Wing

I do appreciate the last diagram, where he states how bumping can actually lead to a disadvantage, and instead recommends to learn when to bump and when to focus fire.

Pretty great article. Blocking is such a fantastic part of the game, and the best of players utilize it well. There are few things as rewarding in X-wing as making a perfect block.

I did have a question though- Intimidation is a pretty mediocre card, outside of maybe on a Bumpmaster. Is there any card that is any good that has a Scyk on it? I'm starting to think the ship itself might be cursed.

It's a good article for those that need a primer on it. I give it a thumbs up.

Totally threw me off I saw the M-3A in the picture and my heart skipped a beat for scum aces or epic ship, then read the title........

Basic stuff, but well presented and useful for newcomers.

Maybe blocking will finally exist on the forums :o

oddly enough, that was my first thought too - I saw the article shared on FB before seeing it here and seeing the M-3A gave me a moment of false hope.

Wholeheartedly agree. I ran an A Wing swarm for awhile, and I felt like that was a big problem for me. I would tend to get a block, then not have enough offense to follow through.

"awaits the return of the thread demanding more punishment for bumping"

that last blip is the same mentality i have on blocking.

I am always going for blocks, but often its not a good idea. It is quite rare, usually happens to me once every 2-3 games, but some ships are just too risky to try and block and/or you might be shafting yourself from lack of a shot or that spot puts YOU in a dangerous position.

Such as Echo. Never try to block echo. Even if you manage to do it once, it will fail dozens of times and she'll sidestep you.

Huh, was somehow expecting the discussion on the card he'd designed for this wave.

We still don't know which card it was, right?

I think it'll be in Wave 10, so probably a couple of months before we get to see it.

i think HE came on the forums at one point and said its in wave10 and thats why we havnt seen it yet.

Unless its one of the 3 unspoiled cards in hotr and he thought it was wave10, but hotr is 9.5-ish lol

Ya it's in wave 10 for sure. I am about 90% sure it is BoShek in the Quadjumper expansion, because it makes little sense to have him in the Quadjumper expansion otherwise.

He also discussed it a bit in the Nova Squadron Podcast, and said his initial card had a couple of really odd interactions that meant it would come with 2 new reference cards, but it ended up being too much of a headache so they scrapped the idea. He also noted he didn't make this one out as a "competitive" card, but more as a fun card. That doesn't mean it wont be competitive, that just wasn't his intention in design is all.

A good article on blocking. I still would like to see an updated on turn zero obstacles with pictures and everything. There was a Team Covenant post I think on the token selection and that was it.

are any of his cards competitive?

He also wrote Dash crew and Stay On Target right? Or is there another im forgetting that is used often? I never see these cards because Dash seems to never actually need to trigger when you have him (fate...i guess) and SoT is worded in a way where you kinda cant use it for what it was intended for (predict one way, he goes the other so you follow him) because the exact opposite maneuver might not be a good one, but +/- 1 speed would be.

Heaver's cards are Stay on Target and Boba Fett. Kinney's card is Dash crew.

Ah, ok boba gets used alot. Also has got to have THE most FAQs out of any rule/card in the game lol (i dont count the timing chart a FAQ, actually isnt that much that changed they just made it very clear with a flow chart rather than put comments at every single possible card interaction)
