rune-touched leather light armor

By bstefano, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

HI,

how can a hero equip 3 or more runes to replace brown die with black.

Battlemage can equip 2 rune weapon with PLANAR WEAPON

Mana Weave is a Rune. It is the only non weapon rune I can think of off the top of my head but there may be more.

Also, don't forget that if you are a runemaster with "inscribe rune", any weapon you equip is a rune- so you could grab two otherwise normal one-hand weapons.

If you have 2 Runes equipped, replace this cards brown defense die with a grey defense die. If you have 3 or more Runes equipped, replace it with a black defense die.

Mana Weave is a non-weapon rune

All rune-weapons count as runes.

Mana Weave is a "Other" (Trinket) item that counts as rune.

Rune-Touched Leather Armor additionally counts as rune (strangely and annoyingly, but perfectly sensible from a balance perspective, Runeplate does not).

And like Zaltyre said, Runemaster's Inscribe Rune allow you to treat any weapon as a rune. Like you said yourself, Battlemage's Planar Weapon allow you to lose 1 hand on all rune weapons, if you want to, allowing you to dual-wield runes.

Some might consider it gaming the system, but if you go for it (and you are clearly intended to do so, by how runetouched-leather works, so it's not really cheesing) it's not that hard to pull it off, especially since most of these things are Act 1 items. In fact, it's very risky to go for it - you may go for full rune-gear, and end up never getting rune-touched leather. And if you've already taken Runeplate, are you really going to throw out the monies for Rune-Touched Leather on top of it?

Edit: Man, I'm having such a hard time excusing being anything other than a Runemaster as a Steelcaster. Rune Grafting coupled with Inscribe Rune is just too boss to pass up, and with Shield Mage , you still get to carry a shield, even though runes remains ranged two-handed weapons.

A Steelcaster-Runemaster gets to use Rune Grafting , Inscribe Rune and Exploding Rune to give any ranged weapon Blast (or melee weapon, if you're suicidal). It doesn't Exhaust, and if you spend a surge, you not only recover the 1 fatigue it costed to give that weapon Blast, but you also recover 2 health. And you can do that with a mere 3xp, and your choice of heavy armor and ranged weapon. For another 2xp, you can grab Rune Mastery and guarantee you'll get at least 1 surge, once per turn.

Do it with Lord Hawthorne (giving all melee weapons Reach) and you don't even need a ranged weapon anymore. Or with Trenloe the Strong just to give that Blast another +1 Damage. I mean goddamn. Trenloe the Strong, Steelcaster-Runemaster, with Staff of the Wild , anyone? Or just a Crossbow . Just. A crossbow. 1h, so you can end up with two shields while throwing blasts around.

Don't forget that Rune touched leather is a rune itself !

Planar weapon and inscribed runes offers you the possibility to equip 2 runes.

Furthermore, Mana Weave is a rune as a tricket along with the wanderer's stone relic.

So, 1 weapon and the armor's defense die change from brown to grey, and one another, and this die become black.

Thanks all
