So lots of pilots have a sort of go to droid or two that they use rather frequently, but Wedge never really seemed to have a droid with his name on it. I am wondering what everyone thinks would be a good idea for him. Since the X-Wing lacks reposition and Wedge has such a good gun, I think a 3 pt. droid that gives a boost action (as the droid's action won't work as the second action for PTL) would be a fine addition. Another option is something to further enhance his fire power, maybe giving a free reroll when firing against a ship with 2 agility or less. Any other ideas?
Brainstorming: A Droid For Wedge
Ironically, R3 Astromech isnt actually all that crappy on him. It's cheap, it makes taking Focus actions less relevant, and Wedge's PS means only VI Vader and the PS10 croud ignore it.
Combined with Juke, Wedge will rarely need focus on offence. With a TL reroll, any eye he rolls becomes defence, and forces an already reduced defender to strip tokens if they DO roll an evade.
You're already paying at least 1 point for Integrated Astro- R3 is one more point, and a single evade doubles it's value.
Edited by RakaydosNot a bad idea. I have been running R3 on Janson, as I often fly the two with Wedge as my main gun, but I have certainly considered R3.
BB-8 is kinda fun on Wedge, especially with PTL.
I have run that too. I think I like him with vector thrusters more but BB-8 leaves room for integrated so that's nice.

There is definitely advantages to Vector Thrusters over BB-8, but I've played enough with BB-8 to know how to game him to my advantage.I have run that too. I think I like him with vector thrusters more but BB-8 leaves room for integrated so that's nice.
I'm entirely certain you can, I know I used to. Admittedly the team I'm using allows Wedge to get evades so I feel the need a bit less and like the regen for further survivability
I usually use R2-D2 for Wedge, cause if I don't he tends to blow up quick on me.
Wedge is one of my favourite pilots, and while he isn't seen a lot in tournaments anymore he is still a joy to fly. I personally like flying him with BB-8, PTL and Engine Upgrade. It gives him great maneuverability and in an ace off or a 1v1, he's hard to beat with that combo.

R7-T1?
But yeah, if creating a custom astromech for Wedge, I would say the following:
- He has a very hard to evade primary attack
- He is on a relatively fragile chassis and is expensive
Therefore, something which triggers off performing an attack that hits to provide him with extra defence is nice.
I agree that the R3 astromech is a nice one for him. Set up target locks/k-turn and make use of any spare focus results. As noted, if it triggers once during the game, it's probably done you proud.

Yeah, I have been having an arc with Jan on board. It makes the rear arc sub optimal, but it's an excellent trap zone. It's PTL and VT Wedge can cover that blind spot on the arc and if something skips in their it's dealing with Wedge. Wes is a third ship in that list making a lot of trouble with his token stripping.
Wedge/BB-8 worked wonders for me this store championship season. Never conquered the crackswarm, but man. It made him JUST wiggly enough to do some things people weren't ready for.

Which is why I favor VT. You can still BR on a green and admittedly it's now after the manuever which is less awesome, but it works just as well after a 3 hard. You are more stress vulnerable in exchange for less predictability, unless your bb-8 wedge had EI, which is a huge point sink, but also insane.
So what I am hearing here seems to be BB-8 or R2-D2

I like R2D2 as well on him, as I don't usually have Biggs in my X-wing squads.

But then you have to sink extra points into a droid to keep wedge alive. I was balling on a budget, didn't even equip an EPT.

Not a bad idea actually... Who were his wingmen?
Jake, VI, crackshot, prockets, thrusters
Miranda, tlt, tactician. 99 points.
You have to remember that this was peak soontir, and vectored thrusters didn't even exist.
Wedge hits as hard as possible, Jake is a one shot anti-ace rocket, Miranda could close games but was there to set the scene for Jake/wedge. That combo doesn't even work anymore.
I once soloed the trip K danger zone list with Jake alone.

Unless I read R7-T1 wrong you can only boost when in the enemy's arc at range 2. If I am mistaken please correct me as I would have much more use for the droid then. What I was proposing was more an unconditional boost, same point cost but less action economy then R7-T1 when he works.
usually when i run wedge hes really cheap because his ability is powerful enough where all he needs is positioning.
Lightning Reflexes, R2 Astromech, and IA.
Not joking. LR gives him the ability to perfectly flip right behind someone's ass, R2 ensures his next move clears stress without losing his target, his ability is powerful enough to not need more shenanigans, and hes really cheap xwing-wise. You'd be surprised how hard it is to shake someone once they get directly behind you, and LR lets him do that. Yeah, its only once, dont care it usually guarantees something is dead.
BB-8 and adaptability/crack shot. Wedge is going to die, so get your money's worth ASAP.
