Underwhelmed

I am trying to build a Tractor list with Ketsu crew. Having Tractor tokens stick around a round or two could be devastating to the likes of /x7's or Aces if you can hit them.

What to take with Ventress is proving a difficult choice.

Well, if the tokens stick around, there's no need to fire at especially high pilot skill, and no need to have an especially high 'native' damage output (as you're firing at a target with next to no evade ability. Heavy Scyks with Tractor Beams? The Lancer is elusive enough that Serissu's ability should actually do you some good, too.

I played Assaj with Push the Limit, K4 Security Droid, Glitterstim, and Gyroscopic Targeting recently to good effect. With basically four actions a turn, she was able to get some good licks in while remaining defensive. Went 3 wins and 1 loss with it at a local tournament.

I like Tactician on Ventress, as has been discussed elsewhere, you deny an /x7 it's focus ability and it becomes a lot less tanky. I have struggled what to pair Ventress up with though. I have thought about a Bossk party bus, add fearlessness and your 180 degree front arc becomes a lot more dangerous, especially if you can roll a crit. But he is as mobile as a palp Shuttle, which is a bad thing.

I ran Palob and a Syndicate Thug, both with TLTs, with Assaj in my list successfully, though more data would be needed to see how they'd do in the long run. Another guy at the tournament I was at ran Assaj with a Bossk party bus and made it to the last round undefeated, then lost to the same list I did. I think he was also running Fearlessness with Bossk.

Dangar might benefit from having a double stressing Assaj as a mate, but they might be a little fragile together.

The other possibility is go duel Lancer and grab Sabine to hopefully tank shots while Assaj spreads the stressful word. That list wouldn't have the same bite as using Dengar or Bossk, and I haven't played Sabine yet, so her ability to tank might not work as well as it sounds on paper.

The list I played was Assaj - PTL, Slicer Tools, Glitterstim, Gyroscopic Targeting, Tactician + Ketsu - VI, Inertial Dampeners, Glitterstim, Gyroscopic Targeting and Gunner.

It did ok, but it needs some fine tuning.

Since I played against 3 large ships, 2 u-boats and a shadowport hunter the tractor beam effects were not as good as they could be.

Also I need practice playing them since I ended up with Assaj in the position Ketsu should have been and vice versa and that meant that Ketsu's ability did not come into effect until later in the game.

I think you're gonna have a hard time trying to run two of these Lancers. As mentioned, it's a tricky support ship in which your probably better off finding a combination with a different ship or two that compliments what you're trying to accomplish with your squad. Besides the TLT Y-Wings and JM5Ks, most scum lists aren't best when spamming the same ship, which is why I enjoy finding cool combinations in the scum faction.

So far I have to agree but I have changed the configuration to the below and give it a few tries before I throw in the towel. :)

Asajj 37 + PTL (3) + BMST (1) + K4 (3) + Glitterstim (2) + EU (4) = 50

Ketsu 38 + VI (1) + Inertial Dampeners (1) + Dengar (3) + Glitterstim (2) + Shadow Caster (3) + Gyroscopic Targeting (2) = 50

In terms of trying things out, especially a new ship, I can definitely understand using two because then during a game, you get more opportunities to learn what the ship can do. Plus, at this point, we won't know until we try. I could be wrong about the Lancers not working in twos.

But it is fast. Did I mention how fast it was? Someone proxying Heroes of the Resistance brought one with Push The Limit, Engine Upgrade and Burnout SLAM. 5 straight/5 straight/boost on a large ship is ridiculous .

Not denying fast here... but I think something is up. Can't Slam/Engine Boost on the Lancer in a single turn. No room to put Advanced Slam on in order to get that second action to boost. Still, gives you plenty of options in just how fast you want to go. -- OOPS! PTL!

I've had some fun with Lancer. Not underwhelmed by any extent. I doubt it will ever be a ship I'm particularly good with though as I have troubles accepting the point cost for what I get... Ventress/Latts combo has been really fun...

I hadn't really thought about Ketsu. I was primarily thinking of a stress build. Here's the build I was thinking about:

Asajj Ventress (37)
Push the Limit (3)
Latts Razzi (2)
Black Market Slicer Tools (1)
Rigged Cargo Chute (1)
Gyroscopic Targeting (2)
Shadow Caster (3)
Black Sun Soldier (13)
Concussion Missiles (4)
Guidance Chips (0)
Black Sun Soldier (13)
Concussion Missiles (4)
Guidance Chips (0)
Black Sun Soldier (13)
Concussion Missiles (4)
Guidance Chips (0)
Total: 100
Might work better with a Ketsu Tractor Beam type list. Go and try to do the bump to get the free Tractor Beam hit. Then, light them up with missiles. Could work...

What I'm most interested in trying with Ketsu piloting the Shadow Caster is partnering up with Kath Scarlet w/ Tail Gunner. Not as much designed to tractor beam other ships everywhere because that won't fair well against big ships, but with one tractor a turn (hopefully 2) plus tail gunner on Kath.......I'm just excited to try it :D

I haven't seen the desire to actually use a tractor beam cannon on anything minus a Tie /D since I can still potentially do damage. Now with Ketsu, I can do damage and potentially apply not only 1, but TWO tractor beam tokens.

Couple of guys in my area that refuse to stop using the thing. Ive yet to face it though

it's the same stats as a Firspray but with the option of losing an action to aim somewhere else, what where you expecting?

With the Gyroscope it doesnt even need to lose an action.

Me and a friend were practicing for a tournament last night and he ran Asaji three times. Wow, what a ship. I totally underestimated its potential.

The final list we built helped get her to the end game in good shape, totally shut down aces, and made her a fast, durable, controlling ship that hit like a truck. Here it is, I strongly recommend it to anyone 'underwhelmed' by this new monster of a ship:

Asajj Ventress (52) Lancer-class Pursuit Craft (37), Push the Limit (3), K4 Security Droid (3), Glitterstim (2), Shadow Caster (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

Trandoshan Slaver (35) YV-666 (29), 4-LOM (1), Zuckuss (1), Dengar (3), Inertial Dampeners (1)

Binayre Pirate (13) Z-95 Headhunter (12), Black Market Slicer Tools (1)

The Caster is my favourite ship of the wave, hands down. I really expected it to actually be the Fang, then the Arc, then the Caster, then the /SF...

Turns out it actually goes Caster, Arc, /SF and finally in last place the Fang. Shows how much you can tell from just reading a ship's stats without seeing it in action I guess...

Have to say the protectorate fighter i was initially nonplussed with but after a dozen games or so i now love it. It's just unlike any other craft and they did a good job of making it distinct from say interceptors with very simple and effective rules.

That's an extremely similar list to what I want to try. The only changes I had were Dengar instead of K4 and BMST & Rigged Cargo Chute instead of Glitterstim. I'll end up trying a bunch of different variations anyway, but it's good to see something very close to what I was considering running for my Ventress build worked so well.

I think Dengar has it over K4 virtually every time. Dengar doesnt rely on greens and with the propensity of named pilots, you get to reroll 2 die.

Yeah, I was gonna stick with Dengar. It's just mainly BMST & Rigged Cargo Chute vs Glitterstim. Glitterstim gives me a huge boost in one round of effectiveness where as the BMST & RCC support the stress giving and utilization of BMST by now two vehicles.

Ketsu is the new hotness. I have not liked Scum to this point but I am now all in on Scum. And even without EU a 5 straight the Slam 5 Kturn. That's just crazy. 3/4 of the board away from where you started. I fly her with mobile arc forward most of the game, to double tractor anything I want to shoot with the rest of my force.

Actually, take back what I said. I completely forgot I need Dengar in the Party Bus. What I meant to say was I was gonna have Latts Razzi in the crew for Asajj, which is a whole different ball game. Depends on if I want to take the offensive approach with K4 or the defensive with Latts Razzi for Asajj.

Yep, that's the issue with Dengar. K4 is a superb crew upgrade that's fallen out of favour since Dengles came along. The Lancer is doing green moves nearly every turn, so K4 is a great choice that is normally better than Dengar. When you roll 3 blanks against a scout, Dengar can't help you. K4 give a lot more punch.

Latts is cool too, but you need Ventress to hit hard...

I cant decide whether to go crazy control and choose Tactician, or choose defensive and go Latts

see Latts doesn't have a range restriction, so imo that's an easy as hell choice :P

My favorite version of Ventress so far:

Asajj Ventress (45) - Lancer-class Pursuit Craft

Lone Wolf (2)

Latts Razzi (2)

Burnout SLAM (1)

Rigged Cargo Chute (1)

Gyroscopic Targeting (2)

It's very defensive, and mostly enjoys flying around the edges of the board, pretending to be a space AC-130. I have been running it with BMST instead of SLAM, but haven't made much use of it against my opponents.

I love this ship, it is so much fun! Even more than flying Dengaroo. I have had success with this build:

Asajj Ventress (37)
Fearlessness (1)
Dengar (3)
Glitterstim (2)
Glitterstim (2)

Shadow Caster(3)
Gyroscopic Targeting (2)

total: 50

What is the other 50 points?

I usualy run it with a pair of Mindlinked Fangs. Control them with stress and tractor beams and let the Fangs do the rest. Believe me they are surprisingly maneuverable with mindlink.
