R3 Biggs?

By banjobenito, in X-Wing

You may hate him, but I have learned to love the pilot upon which sits the mightiest mustache in the Star Wars galaxy.

He has quite a few viable astro options, but currently R4 just wins the war due to efficiency and occasional clutch damage reduction.

Could R3 be poised to change that?

The way rebel lists are going, we will soon be seeing lots of focus gifting with jyn and lots of big boomsticks with Ordnance, Miranda, Ghost and Nora. Biggs' damage contribution was always secondary, and his focus normally gets swallowed up in defense anyway, so R3 spawning an evade for him, on top of focus stacking, could move Biggs over into new territory. Currently, it's a big deal if he manages to limp over the line into the second round of firing - that might be something that becomes more reliably achieved.

When Heroes arrives, we may see a few Jan/Jyn R3 big(gs) hitter lists, which will leave Biggs sitting pretty on 2+ focus and evades - what are your thoughts? Biggs only has 1 more point invested in him, but suddenly he's a monster to put down, and when he fails, the support team backs the list's main big gun (eg Nora).

With a Jan/Jyn Uwing backing him, Biggs might even want to take R2-F2... Imagine a 3-agility Biggs sitting on two evades and three focus...

r3 is literally worthless against anything shooting before Biggs (PS > 5, which is a lot )

also worthless if Biggs doesn't shoot or roll a focus

so, in short, no

if you have jan/jyn, you don't need r3 crapstromech.

Ah yes, thanks Fickle... Very limited use then, only really helpful against crackswarms and Uboats.

R2-F2 wins hands down then!

Something like this looks pretty nasty...

Norra Wexley (40)
ARC-170 (29), R2-D2 (4), Push the Limit (3), Tail Gunner (2), Alliance Overhaul (0), Vectored Thrusters (2)

Biggs Darklighter (27)
X-Wing (25), R2 F2 Astromech (2), Integrated Astromech (0)

Cassian Andor (33)

U-Wing (27), Crackshot (1), Collision Detector (0), Jan Ors (2), Jyn Erso (2), Pivot Wing (0)

If you know you will be facing lots of PS4 or lower stuff... sure, go for it. On a T70 it's possible to get utility out of it despite of the pilot skill dependent nature of R3 because of Comm Relay. On the T-65 though, especially at a lower pilot skill like Biggs, I just can't imagine it being useful.

even v lower PS (like say, torp scouts) r4-d6 is both more useful (2 damage cancel possibility) and half the cost

R2-F2 wins hands down then!

R2 when Biggs can token stack is a completely different proposition to its normal action-draining pointlesness.
