Fenn Rau's Pretty Cool I Guess

Took Fenn Rau (among other things) to a small local tournament today. I did poorly overall, but I did have a lot of fun.

At one point I barrel-rolled Fenn Rau into Range 1 and the firing arcs of all three enemy imperial ships. 11 attack dice later and all I took was a single crit!

It was Damaged Cockpit. :(

What's your most exciting moment with your Wave IX stuff so far?

Man, that sounds awesome! Bad luck, but pretty stellar results, nonetheless. I snagged three protectorates so far, and once I fly them, it might persuade me to get a fourth.

I have only gotten two games in with Wave IX so far. Loved flying the Shadowcaster, though Fenn pulled a K Turn I didn't expect and nuked the **** thing @ range 1, thanks to Manaroo passing off a focus and TL. It was exciting... Just not for me.

The next game was only exciting in that I now know I really dislike the TIE/sf. Until the Epsilon comes out, I'll just be content with keeping the ship in storage while I staple Collision Detector to my Lambda pilots...

I did exactly this and it was glorious. Nothing his Bounty Bus™ could do to stop me K-turning behind him. And by exactly this I mean everything but the nuking. Range 1, Manaroo passed the tokens... and my dice rewarded me with all of 2 shields off Bossk. That was the second time in the same game. Earlier I flew through a rock with Talonbane to land perfectly at Range 1 of his TLT Y-Wing, passed tokens... and was also rewarded with only 2 shields of damage. Like I said... not a good day. But the flying was fun!

I think there is great potential in Fenn Rau and others Protectorates. Im lookimg in to Attani Mindlink and Kad Solus with Fenn Rau and Old Teroch. Loving the idea of two focus and higher PS pilots can clear the stress with green maneuvers. That two focus tokens is perfect for Advanced Proton Torpedos because Fenn and Old Teroch only need Target Lock to launch them.

Manaroo also is great with these guys! Attani Mindlink and Manaroo has made Kihrax, StarViper and Scyk much better, I know that there is some fixing to do for those, but I am sure that many people are not testing those options, because they are "bad".. :D

However I misjudged it slightly and ended up just outside of Range 1. I whiffed my attack roll and got no hits at all and then died from the second ARC's attack.

The moral of that story is not to let Fearless become Careless because he can be really pretty squishy if you do that.

With recon spec Manny, I boosted Fenn into range 1 of a kturning tie/xd Maarek w/ tractor beam. With two focus tokens from Manny, plus the title on Fenn, and his ability, you get 4 green plus a focus, plus an evade for each attack. Fenn came out unscathed, Maarek who only had 3 hull left, was gone.



I think I only like Fenn with Manaroo. In another game without Manaroo, I was one shotted by Moralo since I had to boost and barrell roll out of brobots arc and was left tokenless :(


Got a one shoted as Poe by A fearless Fenn Rau yesterday... So now Fenn Rau is know in my gaming group as Fenn Rauhul (danish for arsehole)

Fenn with Manaroo sounds cool, but I have a hard time coming up with the third ships to fill 100 points. Autoblaster/cloaking/Intel Agent Palob, perhaps?

Cloaked Cobra looks like a good option for third ship. Cobra is usually first to die, but with an even scarier ship on the board alongside him, he may just live a little longer and get a few more shots off.

For 33 points, you can also get a solid Zuckuss with VI/Mindlink/Fearlessness + FCS + Title and your choice of 1 point crew or illicit. I'll be testing out between Zuckuss and Bane and seeing who ends up being the better wingman for Rau. My heart says Talonbane, but my head says Zuckuss.

It's 97 points. I originally had Anti-Pursuit Lasers on Manaroo, but after only winning a game due to a lucky initiative roll, I figured why not just got for the big bid. What's amazing about this list is I can do only one token action and still end up with 5 tokens between the ships. It's also less predictable than PtL and not as vulnerable to Black Market Slicer Tools.

Looking back at the game where I took off only two shields twice with R1 F+TL attacks, the dice put me in a hole but I should've been able to play my way out of it. I was too focused on trying to keep Rau alive after Cobra died, when I should've just traded for his Rau. Mostly healthy Manaroo should've then been able to chase down his Damaged Engine-laden Bossk and then donut hole the TLT to death. But I didn't. :(

So I can fly both new ships together, I'm going to try:

Concord Dawn - 1

Asajj Ventress - 37

Mindlink - 1

Gyroscopic Targeting - 2

4-LOM - 27

What do you think about using those three points to put Chips + Plasma Torps on Manaroo? You lose the bid, but you gain a hell of an alpha strike.

My most exciting moment was in my first game with 2 Sf's and a defender. My opponent had 2 ARCs and 2 Z-95's. I flew quickdraw into range one of norra (my opponent was chasing Vessery, as he figured that was the late game ship for my list). That turn was the first time I experienced throwing 8 dice with rage baffle quickdraw. It's a good feeling. :)

I love Mindlinked ManaRau. Still trying to figure out that last wingman. Been trying to decide if Guri is worth giving up an initiative bid.

I like the idea of Fenn + Manaroo on paper but no matter what third ship I add in I feel like there isn't enough offense to take out ships fast enough before Fenn gets targeted and taken out. If Scum had a 26ish point pocket ace like O-Leader that would be the jam because I could afford to give Manaroo some teeth in the form of torpedoes.

After some games yesterday I am liking this:

Fenn Rau: PtL, AT, title

Contracted Scout: Deadeye, Plasma Torp, Ex Mun, Overclocked, Chips

Slaver: Dengar, 4-LOM, Zuckuss

100 Points

No initiative bid but the Slaver can reliably kill small ships that move and shoot after Fenn so he can work with the Scout to take out other targets.

One list I like is Rau, Manaroo, and Leaachos. He can generate focus and fire missiles before u-boats/lothal rebels. Then you can add plasma torps to Manaroo for a bit of an alpha strike. You can add P1 title to Manaroo for additional punch.

Most exciting moment was definitely when Vessery rolled hit hit crit against Fenn at range two, Fenn's dice came up blank and a major explosion took him off the board.
