Rebels Season 3 Discussion Thread

By Crabbok, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I've really enjoyed the 3 episodes so far, i'm half expecting Ezra to be mentored slightly by Bentu - being a "Grey" force user might help to stop his descent to the dark side (if Kanan and Hera can persuade him)

Also does anyone know the class of ship that launched the Interceptors from the middle at the beginning of the episode? looked freaking awesome

The ship is the Arquitens-class light cruiser, its from the Clone Wars and will be released as a ship for Star Wars Armada in the next wave.

I was toying with Armada and this may well push me into it!!

I believe that Kallus is the Fulcrum agent that got the message out about the Sky Strike cadets but is being watched by Thrawn closely. the whole trap and change of heart thing would fit as well.

Really looking forward to how this season progresses.

A theory I've seen proposed, which seems to make sense to me is that either Kallus is under orders from Thrawn to help the rebels so he can defect and become a mole.

OR

Kallus really is intending to defect, or at least help the rebels, and Thrawn knows this. Thrawn is letting this happen so he can use Kallus to undermine the Rebels.

In either case, Thrawn is all over it.

Eh, the legendary Thrawn has been literally killed because he didn't see a whole species betraying him, I wouldn't be so sure his reincarnation is any better at detecting unhappy not-really-allies.

I propose it MIGHT go down like this:

Thrawn HAS set up Kallus to be Fulcrum

At the same time, Kallus is having some mixed emotions

Thrawn uses Kallus to trap the rebels towards the end of the season, resulting in a major Imperial victory

Kallus feels some guilt over the trap and does a last-minute double cross, allowing SOME of the rebels to escape.

I like it, but I think story-wise it works best if Kallus doesn't realize he's being played until the end.

Like, when he's about to do the thing that sets the Rebels up he figures out that he's been played all-along and he does SOMETHING to mitigate the damage done.

The Rebels still suffer a great loss, Thrawn still gets MOST of his evil points, and Kallus still gets to be a good guy and TRY to fix things.

Bonus points if he dies in the effort, but... Disney...

[looks at the first two seasons of Rebels]

Not really sure why you think Disney's influence is going to stop them from killing Kallus.

Hell, you pretty much just described what happened with Minister Tua.

Disney doesn't make the creative decisions on this show. Lucasfilm does.

There may be rules set down on what they are and are not allowed to show on the network (for example, in TCW they weren't allowed to show 5 heads being cut off at once on Cartoon Network, but 4 was ok.)

That being the case, they're not going to tell them how to tell their story, only how graphic things can be on their network.

Lucasfilm makes Star Wars.

Shame how tame and kid friendly they keep the show....

Maybe I'm wrong, but something that confused me about the last episode was that Thrawn just let Ezra go.

I assumed Thrawn would be keenly aware that there are two Jedi in this Rebel cell he's been sent to deal with and he'd recognize them when he saw them.

I find it hard to believe that he would just let a Jedi go if he'd captured one.

I think the whole thing is that he is planning to wipe the Rebel cell out completely and not just a part of it, so he is learning how they act and react so that when the time comes he can strike them all down at once rather than having to learn the methods of each little group and taking them out one at a time. Just basing that off how he let the rebel fleet escape when they stole the y-wings and how he let hera and the crew go after he found out about how she would try to get out of the situation she and ezra were in.

Has anyone else noticed that the next couple of episodes are fortnightly? really threw me (my normal Sunday night involves watching it with my eldest)

Last was 22nd October then next is 5th November then 19th November then looks like back to Weekly.

I want to see Sabine's paint job on the bug shuttle

So, I had to look at this thread for a completely random reason and it reminded me that I meant to ask how I can binge watch the episodes? Will they be coming to Netflix with the new contract that they signed with Disney? Or is there somewhere they are able to be watched now?

so, who watched the jet-pack Mandalorians and can guess on the pilots of the new phantom when FFG release it?

Fen Rau (Depends on whether they want to add him to Rebels or not, especially since it would mean another PS 9 pilot)

Sabine (Because she pilots everything!)

Ezra (Because why not)

Chopper (maybe?)

I reckon chopper could be released as an astromech and not as a pilot.

Sabine will be in it, after all it is Sabine wing now, i reckon Fen could get a PS drop to 7 as it is an ungainly beast compared to the fang (and his time in the pokey would have potentially made his abilities a little rusty) Maybe a Generic and then Ezra pilot (or drop the Generic and stick Zeb on it)

i'm also looking at an Arc 170 style base with front and rear arcs as opposed to a turret with maybe a cannon slot

really enjoyed the episode (as did my boy) will try and re watch it sometime to see what i missed.

We also saw that huge Mandolorian ship again. I think it's JUST large enough to come in at the tail end of being a huge ship for scum.

The one from the Imperial Super Commandos episode? It is the same type ship that Maul flies and was in the Clone Wars. It is basically a big version of the protectorate fighter in the game at the present. And yes, I would like to see it in this game, though not sure if I'd prefer they gave it the large ship treatment or the huge ship treatment, I think I lean towards the large ship treatment with it being out of the usual 1/270 scale to accommodate as such. I mean from what we see in the clone wars it seemed to be fairly maneuverable.

Woud make a fine large ship; for the Imperials. Scum has enough ;)

Ehh~~~~ I don't know, most of the pilots for the ship were the Mandalorians, and it could be argued that while the Imperial Super Commandos work for the Empire they are still Mandalorian. Plus the Scum faction seems a better place for lots of larger ships. Heck this ship would easily take the place of the big 4 attack dice attacker role that the Rebels have filled with the VCX and the Empire has filled with the Upsilon Shuttle.

Good point of the 4 attack dice.

However, I do think it would look good besides an Imperial Raider or some Interceptors :)

Any opinions on the last episode with the ´sentry droids´?

Not as cool as the dark troopers, but they looked neat. Hopefully we will see them again, or at the very least get them for Imperial Assault.

Still waiting on Thrawn to actually do something.

That is a little something.
