Rebels Season 3 Discussion Thread

By Crabbok, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Spoiler warning if you haven't watched it yet....

Amazing premiere! Loved it!

RIP Phantom!

Hats off to you for making this thread in the Off Topic forum. It really irks me when there's technically 'off topic' stuff on the main page.

We've seen in the trailer and in a Lego catalog that there will be a new Phantom. I wonder what that might mean for FFG making a new ship and how that would release, and how it would fit with the current Phantom title card.

Overall I thought that Seige of Lothal was a much stronger season opener than Steps into Shadow.

I think my favorite bit here was Kanan and Bendu.

I really loved it, was pretty cool and amazing. I also wished it could have lasted longer lol.

Seeing the Rebels get the Y-wings was cool, though I really thought they would get more than what they did.

Seeing Ezra taller and older is something to get used to, but not in a bad way. And they are showing his possible descent to the dark side, in fact his actions are looking like how Anakin would act in the Clone Wars.

Sad to see the phantom destroyed but already had a clue from that Lego leak. ...but I guess we will get another Sabine ship in the future.

Seeing Thrawn was pretty awesome, and hearing how Dodonna is gonna be involved was a cool treat at the end. Perhaps we will see Mon Motha and others soon to.

mining guild scum tie's incoming!!!

A fantastic first episode of the season.

Loved the new darker Ezra a lot, with the stand out scene being his entrance to the Control Room...that reminded me so much of the scene near the end of Revenge of the Sith where Anakin arrives to kill the Separatist Leaders on Mustafar.

There was just enough Grand Admiral Thrown to whet the appetite for what's to come.

I now want to play a Y-Wing swarm squad in X-Wing.

Really really looking forward to the next episode in a weeks time.

Really hoping they release a new Phantom shuttle that is compatible with the existing Ghost - so you can equip either and still use the ghost title.

Lots of potential!

Next Y-wing Ace pack will feature Sabine in a Y-wing

Half jokes aside, it was pretty solid. Can't wait to see more of Thrawn and see Wedge in the future.

I'm really curious who the new YT-2400 pilot is going to be

So, it looks like episode 3 is the Wedge episode. Episode 2 will be with the return of Maul. Again.

It surprised me how much stuff from the trailer was from that one episode.

Indeed. Although there's still bits that strike me as better; he "I trust my friends - you, not so much" was a nice line.

I'll be mildly amused/surprised if they do put the Mining Guild TIEs in the game (not to say they won't). It is an 'easy win' but do we really need every faction to have the TIE fighter? This one shouldn't be a uniques-only....which means it's really, really going to have to work to distinguish itself from the scyk without one or the other simply being "better".

seeing as how the timeline is 5-3 years before Yavin and we still do not have X-Wings... I wonder if this season or next we will see the defection of Incom?

I'm actually shocked we got A-Wings before X-Wings in Rebels...

Well... in new canon the Endor A-wings were modified version, stripped down armor, weapons, and shields with highly mobile weapons mounts to make up for the high speed. Basically the can the A-wing line as a whole is older/as old as the X-wing, but the A-wings at Endor were new.

Cool reference to Dodonna's Rebel cell ... I wonder if we'll see any more of them?

And the throwback references to the original Journal of the Whills treatment with the Jedi Bendu from Opuchi who manipulates the Ashla and Bogan ... priceless.

So did Maul see Obi Wan?

So did Maul see Obi Wan?

And then flying away. Maybe (finally) getting a stand-off where Maul is destroyed by Obi Wan for good?

Did he run because of fear for Kanan? Seems less likely as he is rather intent on killing him.

Or did he see that Darth Vader is actually Anakin Skywalker?

That would give a nice end-battle for Maul too.....

So, The Antilles Extraction was pretty good. Hopefully Wedge and Hobbie will remain a part of the cast. Considering Hobbie is voiced by a regular anyways, I could see him showing up quite a bit.

Hey for what it's worth, my thread predates the off topic forum.

I want to see more of knock-off Fel, the guy with the yellow stripes, Vult Skerris .

I'm mad at Kallus for letting them go. He's gone soft.

Not every bad guy needs to be reedemmable! I just want a bad bad guy. I guess that's what Thrawn and Price are for now.

I just liked how purely awful Kallus seemed in season one when he was boasting about genociding Zeb's people.

Bad guys who didn't go good. Hmmmmm.

Still alive:

Tarkin

Palpatine

Maul

Vader - At least not until the very, very, end.

Baron Rudor

Arhidna Price

Thrawn - Never going good. He's evil because it's challenging.

Nazhros Oleg - They do start young, don't they.

Died for the Cause:

Seventh Sister

Eighth Brother

Sixth Redshirt

The Inquisitor - Fear kept him loyal, even in death.

Tua - Died before she could do any good.

So, yeah. Most of the bad guys don't want to be redeemed, and all of the ones that do die in the attempt.

Long Live the Empire.

I also prefer Kallus as a competent foe although am enjoying his character arc.

I've really enjoyed the 3 episodes so far, i'm half expecting Ezra to be mentored slightly by Bentu - being a "Grey" force user might help to stop his descent to the dark side (if Kanan and Hera can persuade him)

Also does anyone know the class of ship that launched the Interceptors from the middle at the beginning of the episode? looked freaking awesome

I enjoyed how they made the ghost seem like an absolute monster when it blew those TIE's up. Seemed like it made Sabine think about their actions a bit more.

A theory I've seen proposed, which seems to make sense to me is that either Kallus is under orders from Thrawn to help the rebels so he can defect and become a mole.

OR

Kallus really is intending to defect, or at least help the rebels, and Thrawn knows this. Thrawn is letting this happen so he can use Kallus to undermine the Rebels.

In either case, Thrawn is all over it.

I think you've nailed it here.... as close as it can be nailed.

We've all been suspecting Kallus of having the potential for a change of heart since last season. Thrawn is so smart though....

I propose it MIGHT go down like this:

Thrawn HAS set up Kallus to be Fulcrum

At the same time, Kallus is having some mixed emotions

Thrawn uses Kallus to trap the rebels towards the end of the season, resulting in a major Imperial victory

Kallus feels some guilt over the trap and does a last-minute double cross, allowing SOME of the rebels to escape.

This way you still have Dodonna's fleet at Yavin, you still have the potential for SOME of our heroes to survive, (I still expect Sabine to die, and Ezra to survive, forming the knight of Wren, which later drops the W)... and best of all, it still counts as a major victory for Thrawn - who then gets sent on a special mission to the uncharted regions in search of something something something dark side.

It could even play out that IF Thrawn had NOT been sent away, the Death Star wouldn't have been destroyed. Perhaps he makes the suggestion that they proceed differently but his warnings are ignored by Tarkin.... or something.
